If BYU lost, Boise St jumps up to the #4 spot. We are literally competing with MWC for the #4 spot.
F**k the Big 12. This conference sucks. The ONLY thing it has going for it is the payout. Outside of that, it is no better then any other non-P2 conference and the college football playoff standings show this. Look at the last playoff rankings:
#4 – Miami – ACC
#9 BYU – Big 12
#12 Boise St – MWC/PAC-12
#13 – SMU – ACC
#17 Iowa St – Big 12
#19 – Kansas St – Big 12
#21 – WSU – PAC-12
#22 – Louisville ACC
#23 – Clemson ACCThree Big 12 teams, two PAC-12 teams, 4 ACC teams. No elite teams. There is no cache in the Big 12. No guarantee of anything. This conference isn’t anything special and it is why they were so desperate for BYU to win.
If BYU loses, they drop in the standings and the Big 12 has ZERO playoff teams.
The Big 12 sucks.
If Utah had an out to the ACC, I’d take it immediately. If they could get the same money from the PAC-12, I’d take it immediately.
If the PAC-12 would get them close to the same money, I’d take it immediately.
Coming back to the West Coast would be much more enjoyable than the Big 12 and would have the EXACT SAME CHANCE OF THE PLAYOFFS as the Big 12.

The thing that really sucks is that we are cellar dwellers in a conference that sucks.

Dude, look at today’s Saragin power ratings. The big 12 is second and ahead of the big 10. Also, since Miami lost, the big 12 winner could get the 3 seed instead of 4. You are CRAZY if you think this league is on par with a g5 league. Plus, it’s the number 1 basketball conference.
Of course, ute fans don’t care about basketball anymore, form the 1000 fa’s rattling around in the huntsman center the other night. That’s too bad, since from what I watched, you look to be better than byu so far.

It’s hard to tell if you’re any good when you play the Sisters of the Poor and Shameless Western State JV team.

Look at the college football playoff rankings. If BYU loses, the Big 12 has zero playoff teams.

The top 5 conferences are guaranteed a playoff team. The big 12 will get a minimum of 1 playoff team, unless you beleivethey will drop below both the MW and AAC. You can’t be that dumb to believe that.

Honestly, if byu wasn’t undefeated army and Boise at being in over the big 12 wouldn’t be that far stretched, but they are even though I don’t think they’re all that great they’ve earned it thus far.

The conference being granted a automatic bid to the playoffs isn’t very appealing to me. I’d rather be in the PAC12 and if we weren’t ranked high enough not get in. Over the years there were very few times that ended up hurting us and that was a 4 team playoff. With 12 teams the need for an automatic bid is nil. It’s just for seeding purposes. I hate the Big12 more each week. It doesn’t fit. And if our so-called rivalry game is on at 1am in the morning it tells you what the conference thinks of it too.

It depends on whether you’re trying to crown a national champion for an individual year or figure out who the best team is.
The NFL proves almost yearly that the team with the best record is not a shoe-in to win the Super Bowl. Wild card teams have won and have as good a chance at getting hot for a couple of weeks as anyone else.
As for the titular “best team”, you don’t need a playoff for that. People are still arguing about rankings from a half-century ago and probably enjoy that more than if they’d gotten a definitive conclusion.

At the end of the day, all college football is, and all sports in general, well, is entertainment. And, if you’re in a conference with a bunch of other schools that you feel no connection to, based in a region of the country you have no connection to, then, that “entertainment” is not going to be pretty entertaining. All I can say is that I’m sure glad that I didn’t take the plunge and buy plane and game tickets to the UCF game during T-Giving week. That would have been hard to swallow.

And no one cares about college basketball anymore.

They do the first weekend. At least until their bracket gets blown up. Imagine that, an entire sport whose real draw has nothing to do with the sport but whether or not choosing mascot over team colors is a winning strategy.
-
UtahParticipant
But see…they don’t really care. They care about the bracket and the gambling. But the basketball?
The ratings are absolutely awful. No one watches/cares about college basketball until March Madness…
And even then, once your bracket is blown up no one cares either.

ya know, i think i liked it better when we disagreed on everything. the team was winning, the birds were singing, @utedub wasn’t complaining about running the ball too much or too little.,, just sayin’
