I can only imagine how last night felt. I won’t get into the controversial call.

I will say that your D played lights out and your stadium was electric. I knew this game was going to be a nail biter.

Sorry for idiotic fans running their mouths over a last second one point win. Ugh. We can be elated that we survived without being d-bags about it.

I only had one bad experience yesterday. Was walking my 87 year old pop up the hill. It’s hard for him. I basically block for him and make sure the crowd doesn’t knock him over.

A byu and Ute fan were jawing at each other and the byu fan wasn’t watching where he was going and bashed into a girl, probably 18ish. Called her a bitch and put his fist up in the air like he was going to hit her. It’s a damn good thing he didn’t because all the other people around would have sent him to the hospital.

The best reply to the guy (wasn’t me but I’m stealing it) was, “You won. Don’t be a dick.”

        That’s a perfect response.

I am so torn on this rivalry. I know that you hate it with a passion based on your experience growing up.

But for me, it was always a great memory with my family going to the games, win or lose. I have mentioned that my brother-in-law played for the U and is a really good guy and we have a super respectful relationship when it comes to the rivalry.

But overall, it is so toxic on both sides. It seems like every game is super close and creates really hard feelings from both fan bases feeling like they got screwed. Then you throw in the religious aspect, and it just takes it up a notch.

I don’t know how to fix it but I wish it could just stay in the field. Because from pure football aspect, it is an incredible rivalry with so many close finishes.

And both sides think the other is to blame. It’s like politics. The other side will never see your point of view.

So I just try to do my part and keep it civil. And I know plenty of BYU and Utah fans who do the same. Just wish the idiots didn’t ruin it for the rest of us.

Honestly when we sacked the qb in 4th and 10 I didn’t even feel joy. Just relief it was likely over. I hate this game, it’s not fun and just brings out the worst and reminds one of so much crap we had to deal with from Y fans growing up and clearly still do today. Talk about poor sportsmanship.

          Whatever I guess.

I had the exact same feeling when we won. I had been so sick to my stomach the entire game that I basically did not even enjoy it. It was just relief.

I’ve had crappy Utah fan exchanges too. Both fanbases have idiots.

Yep, I’d prefer that we never play TDS again for the rest of my life. When we win, it’s just like a big exhale of relief, not really any joy. It’s what is expected. Not much upside to ever beat them. If we lose, it puts me in a really bad mood, especially having to deal with all of the TDS fans since I live in Utah County.

I’m old school. The term “scoreboard” applied when the losing team or fans started talking trash. Scoreboard meant we won case closed.

Saturday night a small group of BYU fans in the middle of a Utah season ticket holder section started chanting BYU while everyone was leaving. I said have some respect you’re a guest in our house. He pointed to the scoreboard and said scoreboard. So evidently the meaning of scoreboard has changed. It now means you can talk trash to your opponent if you win. I saw some Ute fans trash talking on the way out. Scoreboard would be my response to them.

The term sportsmanship has become a lost value in our society and especially this rivalry game. I’ve coached youth sports for many years and tried to instill the importance of respecting the other team and having fun. Winning has become too much of an obsession.

we’ve turned into a society of poor losers and worse winners. and i’m not particularly happy with the development even though I know tilting at that particular windmill is long past having a chance to affect.

I agree National Champ. It all starts with the youth athletic programs. The birth of comp teams in all youth sports sends the wrong message. Getting the best players and winning is more important than playing and having fun.

It boggles my mind how competitive parents can get wanting their kids to win. Seems it’s trending in the wrong direction. Youth sports should be all about having fun and trying to get better. Until things change at the bottom they will never improve at a higher level.

Been a lurker for a while and made an account just to reply to this. Appreciate your comment. Wanted to share my experience after the game.

My family and I sit in the NEZ, have been there since the Mtn West days. We had a good number of TDS fans around us, most were respectful and nice to talk to. Nothing ever went over the line. That changed after the game. After being relatively quiet besides cheering for their team, these ass hats decided to start talking trash to all the Ute fans exiting the portal while sitting in seats 10ft above everyone. Didn’t talk trash once during the game or when we walked by them down the stairs, but once we were far enough away they wanted to start talking trash. Really just trying to rub it in everyone’s face and just simply being dicks. A couple of random Ute fans and myself welcomed them to come down to the concourse and say that directly to us rather than 10ft above us. What a bunch of cowards. That boiled my blood more than anything that happened out there on the field. I love this game, but hate how some fans behave themselves. Act like you’ve been there before.

Thanks for posting utahman. I posted several times to not sell your tickets to BYU fans. There is nothing worse than showing up to the rivalry game and having BYU fans in front behind or next to you.

Luckily our section had no BYU blue anywhere. But the next section over had a group of 6 or 7 BYU fans. They were pretty quiet all game long and weren’t a problem at all. After the game a few other BYU fans coming down the aisle saw them. They started chanting B-Y-U together. It irritated the hell out of me because they were right next to me and traffic was at a standstill and I have an aisle seat. I told them to show respect and they said look at the scoreboard and started chanting louder. A fight almost broke out as many Ute fans were not ok with the chanting and started yelling back.

The crowd was awesome it was an intense fun game. Why rub it in when you won. I’ve been in a similar situation in other stadiums and would never rile up a defeated fan base. Why do these people feel so entitled to come into our house act like idiots.

I don’t know, that seems pretty tame to me considering the context. We just snatched a last second win to preserve our perfect season, against our rival. It was also the first win there since 2006.

I can understand BYU fans being excited and cheering for their team. If they were cussing in your face and being belligerent that would be something different.

It upset me and many others so it’s not ok. Cheering for your team and being excited to win are normal and expected. Having someone yelling BYU chant in your ear is not ok. It happened on the stairs when everyone was leaving. Nobody was moving because of the crowd. I’d be fine if they did it in their seats or in the BYU section. It crossed the line with me.

Seems fine to me as well. That’s just nature of the rivalry where people know what will annoy the other fans without stepping over a line.
