Long time lurker, first time poster. I’ll admit I’m a Cougar fan, I mostly spend most of my time on Cougarboard, but have been spending more time on UteHub lately due to the Cougarboarders being a bunch of meanies to me due to the fact that I’m a transgender lesbian and a male feminist as well as a mod, and a huge Disney/Avengers/Star Wars superfan.

First of all I wanted to drop by and say that I’ve always admired Coach Whittingham and his excellent defenses year after year, and I’ll admit, I too am a huge fan of leather pants. I also, wanted to say that you guys owned the rivalry for years, and we’re just lucky to be finally getting on the same footing as you all, I wish we had as recent of a national championship as your 2008 one.

And while in my opinion it was indeed a hold, in the game on Saturday, it shouldn’t have been called, because that’s just big tough, smack you in the butt defense right there. I’ve personally written a letter about my opinion on this to Brett Yormark himself, as well as filed a police report.

Best of luck this week playing the real rivalry game, Colorado. I hope you win, but just don’t be too good, okay?

Actually, the post should have started “long time loser, first time boner.” After seeing all of this, I’m glad I grew up in Miami and not SLC…I now know why Tony says he has PTSD from growing up here…

This stuff comes from what I’d describe as a lack of “worldliness” in Utah youth. Because the state can be very culturally monolithic there is this very odd feedback loop where nobody in the club is punished for doing things that would get you laughed at or beat up elsewhere. And as years go on,in an effort to one up itself, it gets more strange to the point of parody but without the self awareness.

It was the same when I was grade school aged. You have no idea how “small” it all really is until you get out there live some life, but many never do.

Literal lol, but not in the way you’re thinking

You crammed as many multisyllabic words in there to show your ‘sophistication’ only to essentially steal the quote from Mike Tyson “Social media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”

Also, to the homie who is grateful he grew up as a Florida Man, where reason and life experience makes you better prepared over Utah kids for those meth moments in life——haha, what??

Yeah the Utah cultural can be great sometimes but absolutely terrible other times. Wayyyy too many kids never learn about consequences. Obviously some do because they have good parents who teach them but from a culture aspect many are never reprimanded, and the ones who are end up feeling worse about themselves because they’re either shamed by the same kids that are in their home ward or feel judged because they’re not lds. Just a real need for more diversity in Utah overall but that’s probably something that will never happen.

You think so Rick? If I read my stats right, this state is getting more diverse by the year. And SLC itself is pretty diverse…I mean it’s not LA or Miami but I’m sure you get what I mean…

You are right, the state is getting more diverse overall. I guess I mostly mean to your point, it will never be as racially or ethnically diverse as a state like Miami or religiously diverse as a state like Pennsylvania.

It takes at least a generation for all that new diversity to make changes to a culture. And usually those changes involving going to the exact opposite extreme that the OP is pretending to be. Religion needs to be replaced with anti-religion, strong family values need to be replaced with hedonism.,, Just once I’d like to see change incorporate the best parts of the “old” with some improvements from the “new” but what fun would that be?

Where’s McMahon and Lasso when you need them? Rational BYU fans need to call out their own. Same goes for our side. Shades of the 70s and 80s. Thank God there wasn’t social media back then. Wasn’t there a movie that said “they’re back””

But you have to admit, it is a little funny that you said you could “spot” BYU humor a mile away, and then whiff several times.

Best of luck to you, guys! I hope you guys win 2 of your next 3 games!

Mantis, you guys make me laugh…you’re so immature as a fan base…one whiff of incomplete success and you’re on top of the world…what will happen if you lose to Kansas on Saturday? Will people be jumping off the Moroni Statue in Temple Square in despair? You have to understand that, outside of Utah, it’s people like you who are different, people like you who others point to as the weird ones and don’t really want anything to do with…and guess what, Utah is changing by the minute and in 50 years or less, even here in Utah you’ll be seen as weird, irrelevant, different…enjoy the present, enjoy the moment, because that’s all you have and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.

            1) I’m grateful that I made you laugh. Bringing joy to people in football poverty is a #blessing

            2) We’re so immature, I get it. Oftentimes we result to religious bigotry because we have literally nothing else to cling to. p.s. I’m not mormon, but if you’d like to make allusions to me being offended by the “temple square” stuff, go for it——that’s my gift to you.

            3) I’ve lived in NYC, Portland, Dublin, Oxford and travelled all over Africa for my work, but by all means, go ahead and tell me what it’s like to ‘live in the big city’. I heard you guys have bars in SLC? Is that true? Also, what happens inside a bar? Do people do alcohol in there?

            4) Utah is changing, and it’s awesome. You should see the big tent down at BYU. Lots of diversity incoming. Growth is good. You guys should try growing in your win column.

            5) Thank you for the advice. I am enjoy the present, including national media clowning on Ute fans and your bitchy administration.

In the name of Miami Ute, Amen

I’m not from SLC, I just started living here five years ago when I fully retired. In fact, the only time I lived in Utah before that, was the 18 months I spent in grad school at the U a quarter century ago. And you’re right, it’s nothing compared to Miami, Atlanta, Madrid, the Bay Area, Amman, Beirut, Riyadh, Kuwait City, Rome, and a bunch of other places that I’ve spent multiple years living in, but I still like it.

The fact that you’re here just proves my point as to your immaturity.

If you read closely, I never said you were Mormon, but thank you for outing yourself. Brilliant work that…

Now, stop dallying in here…you’ve got some panhandling work to do, remember?

Miami I lived in Salt Lake my whole life. We moved to Holladay in the early 60s and lived here ever since. We were the only non Mormon family in several blocks. The religion has always been strange to me but the people have been great neighbors and friends. It taught me to judge others by actions not religion. I wouldn’t change anything and I’m so lucky to grow up in such a great family friendly community and have made lifelong friends. BYU and the bubble doesn’t represent the religion and people as a whole. The bubble is the perfect name for BYU and surrounding area because it doesn’t necessarily reflect the opinions of most LDS members. I know all my zLDS friends despise BYU attitude and chose to go elsewhere for college.

Jim, thanks for your comments. That’s been my experience as well. I live in a cul-de-sac in southern Davis County where my family is the only non-Mormon/Mormon background one in the block. They are all good, thoughtful people, even the ones that went to BYU. That was pretty much my experience with LDS people until the BYU basketball game last season and this past weekend’s game. There’s an obvious dark undercurrent that doesn’t show up in everyday life unless, I guess, you’re down in the bowels of Utah County.

You’re lucky you’ve only had a BB game and FB game to change your way of thinking. The 70s and 80s were unbearable. It’s calmed down since we joined pac 12 and they went independent. “They’re back” describes it to a tee. It will get worse.
