Meet Deion Sanders, next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys…and his new QB, Shadeur Sanders…where there’s smoke…
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
That will be hilarious. Jones is such a moron I imagine he does that.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
The team needs something and Jerry likes big, splashy signings…McCarthy, at this point, is a dead man walking…wouldn’t surprise me if it happened. And, if it does, there go the Buffaloes…their sandcastle would just disappear…

Gonna be an interesting 2025 especially when the P Diddy list comes out and takes out entertainers and sports personalities all over.
-

that list won’t come out any quicker than the Epstein list. People with money and/or political power are pretty good at not being held accountable for their indiscretions.

Na. He’ll commit suicide and the list will disappear.

If Shadeur is still there that deep. Most have him going as the top QB, then Ward. I know they’ve talked about pulling an Eli/Elway and saying he won’t play for certain teams (If I were them, JETS, Panthers, Bears are all qb killers). But he will not get to the Cowboys (probably in 5-10 range).
-
The Miami UteParticipant
We’ll see…it’s starting to look like the Cowboys are mailing games in…if they continue to play like that, they might not win another game this year…
-
AnferneeParticipant
Cowboys can also trade up.

I’m sad to admit to you all. I am a Cowboys fan. I’m sorry everyone. I grew up in the 90’s and we had some good years. I hate Jerry Jones and what he has done to this franchise. He is hanging on to those championships in the 90’s and has done nothing but meddle since. He is Al Davis 2.0.
It doesn’t matter who he hires, he destroys this team every year with his personnel decisions. Didn’t want to bring in Derrick Henry! I won’t go on and on.
I do hope he gets Deion just to get him out of our conference from a recruiting and competition stand point. But I do think Deion’s draw lifts this conference nationally. Without him Utah(not this season) and Byu are the standard bearers and sadly, I don’t think that is going to take us (and BYU) to the promised land of the eventual super league. Just my thought. -

Tom Brady and the Raiders are targeting Shedeur. I imagine they’d listen to offers.
Cowboys biggest problem is they just resigned Dak to 4 yr deal, $231 million guaranteed and nobody else wants any part of that deal.
I do think Deion to the Cowboys is not just possible, but likely.

Jerry got his titles with college coaches who moved up and hasn’t done much with all his NFL guys. Makes sense he’d want to go back to the future
-
The Miami UteParticipant
That’s the first thing I thought about…his titles were won with Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer at the helm…makes sense to try the old formula once again…

I’ve been telling this to my football friends for months.
Deion is only at Colo as long as his sons are.
Jerry Jones is gonna fire current HC hire Deion and then will trade Prescott and multiple draft picks to a team with a top pick he’d go no lower than 3rd and draft Shedeur
This shouldn’t even be a rumor. This is solid and will absolutely happen
-
The Miami UteParticipant
This is the most well known “secret” in sports. Deion has just about finished drinking his cup of coffee with Colorado. When he leaves, all the players leave, and Colorado comes back down to reality.
-
-
Jim VanderhoofParticipant
I can see Deion going to a Florida school or SEC school. He constantly complains about cold weather games. He’s not NFL ready. Jerry Jones might roll the dice but they can’t win with an experienced NFL coach.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I mentioned something similar earlier before hearing the rumors about him going to the Cowboys. Conservatively speaking, there are going to be four or five head coach positions coming open this off-season in the SEC. If I’m one of those teams, I go hard after Sanders so that I can get the recruits and be on national television every weekend.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
There’s only a couple of jobs worth taking in the SEC though, even if all were being offered. If you’re at Deion’s stage of life, do you really want to take over another major rebuild? There was a lot of latitude available in taking the Colorado job because the expectations were so low and the competition wasn’t that scary.
Auburn might want him to win the PR war with ‘Bama but that has to be the scariest HC job in the country. Would you want to try to fix Arkansas or Mississippi State? Florida looks like they’ll give Napier one more year, Missouri is holding it’s own and Shane Beamer has gotten a couple of big wins lately. Clark Lea can stay at Vandy as long as he wants after beating ‘Bama. So I’m really not seeing any attractive, available jobs that Deion would want, especially if he can’t bring a former #1 recruit and his pro ready sons with him.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
To that I’ll say this…all Deion has done in his head coaching career is take on total rebuilds. Jackson State was a total rebuild and so was Colorado. Neither one of those schools has anywhere near the amount of resources that an Auburn or Arkansas has…and if Deion can draw top level recruits to Jackson State and Colorado, it’s hard to see how he won’t be able to do the same thing at schools with a much higher profile in the best football conference in the nation.
Whatever the case, after this year there won’t be anything to keep him in Boulder and someone will no doubt make a play for him because there’s a huge demand signal for his style of football. Hell, Mel Tucker had one mediocre season (5-7) in Boulder and that was all it took for him to get swooped up by Michigan State. I can surely imagine the bidding war that will ensue if the Buffs make it to the CFP or even further. He gone…

2008 National ChampParticipant
The good thing about being the prettiest girl at the dance is you get to pick which guys you’ll pay attention to.
Jackson State and Colorado were schools willing to take a chance on a coach whose style score outweighed his resume. He’s now proven that he can outrecruit the standard at those schools while also winning games at a rate not achieved in recent history. Those assets give him a lot of bargaining position that he didn’t have 2 years ago when every school but Colorado laughed at the thought of hiring him. Heck, just the number of eyeballs he’s brought to Colorado is probably worth consideration for an SEC job, even if he went 4-8 both years.
So if you had the pick of the litter in the coaching cycle this year, what jobs would you take knowing you’ll get paid but not just for the paycheck? Auburn? Their boosters have no patience with a rebuild. And if you don’t treat them like royalty you have to win immediately. And even if you win immediately, they’ll still run you out of town at the first sign of adversity. People think the parochial school has a delusional fan base but they are nothing compared to Auburn who act like Alabama’s history is theirs instead of something they want to emulate. And even with all of that, Auburn is probably the most attractive available job in the SEC this year.
Gene Chizik won a Championship in 2010 and was fired two years later. The only other Championship winning coach I can remember being fired, not for cause, was Philip Fulmer and Tennessee sucked for about 20 years after.

The Miami UteParticipant
Who do you think can get the best recruits to the State of Alabama, African-American, Native Floridian, College and Pro Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders or South Dakota-born, small-town Kalen DeBoer? The thing about college football right now is that there aren’t any rules or guard-rails and a team’s fortunes can change, as we’ve seen conclusively, from one season to the next. It wouldn’t surprise me that, if Sanders goes to Auburn, he doesn’t start raiding all the SEC rosters, and those players start matriculating at Auburn.
Having lived for a few years near Auburn on the Georgia side of the border, it isn’t as if Auburn’s boosters are the Little Sisters of the Poor…they have the money to match or surpass anything that Alabama throws at recruits, and, with Sanders at the helm, a more attractive head coaching situation for the most important demographic in college football.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
And even with all of that, if Colorado ponies up equivalent money do you make the move? Cuz no one will question what he does in Boulder going forward. And they can probably pay whatever salary he wants just out of the Prime merch sales.
Play a Big 12 schedule every year which increases your profile and chances of the playoffs. Beat your head against the SEC schedule which has Alabama AND Georgia as your designated rivals while boosters question your every move and perfection isn’t good enough.
Someone Dan Lanning’s age probably takes the challenge head on. Yet Lanning recognized what he had available to him at Oregon and turned down the Alabama job before DeBoer took it. And everyone in the country outside of their boosters recognizes Auburn ain’t no Bama.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
You make a valid point, if that’s the way that Sanders wants to play it. I don’t know him personally but I know people that do, going back to when he was a high schooler in North Fort Myers, and I just have a hard time believing that Colorado is anything but a stepping stone. I also feel that he would probably be a lot more comfortable in the Southeast than in the Mountain West from a weather, societal, etc…standpoint.
For sure Alabama has more fans, boosters than Auburn, but let me tell you, the War Eagles aren’t far behind. And, in fact, as college players go, I would put Bo Jackson and Cam Newton head to head with any player that Alabama has ever produced.
I guess we’ll see what happens in just a couple of months…who knows, maybe Colorado losses their final three games and the luster wears off his shine.
