I really want Utah to win Saturday. It has nothing to do with the fact that my team (BYU) would like Iowa State to lose.

If you see my previous post, you will see I cheered for Utah in 2008, even as they were defeating my Cougars in Salt Lake City. I wanted BYU to win, but once I saw it was not possible, I cheered for Utah and felt they deserved the National Championship.

Utah can become bowl elligible. We all anticipated much more at the beginning of the year, but it is something. It’s better than what my Cougs had last year:(

Usually, most years, I feel the same way about BYU. But man, that Holy War game this year really soured me. Also, I probably lurk too often on Cougarboard that I’m praying BYU loses one more and doesn’t make the playoff. I don’t know if I can handle the incessant annoying fans.

That said, I am generally ok with BYU, it was easy when we weren’t in conference together. Also, at least one or more of my kids will go there and I’m encouraging them to go there (it’s cheap and a great University). And being active LDS, I appreciate BYU’s ties to the Church and its influence outside of Utah.

I’ll second just about all of Aloha’s comments. Except for lurking on Cougarboard! I don’t do that! Haha!

The time apart not being in the same conference and occasional breaks in the rivalry game softened my opinion towards BYU athletics considerably. I’d increasingly been cheering for them against opponents that had no impact on the Utes whatsoever, but man joining the Big12 with them has not been kind on SO many levels… This is the first time in years that I’ve wanted them to lose this badly.

As a member of the church myself, I think it’s a great school and I get along quite well with most that graduated from there, but I just can’t handle their super fans. Like at all… (That being said, I realize we have our own contingent of fans that are probably just as poisonous)

Anyway, Aloha brah! I lived in Hawaii for two years (yeah THOSE two years), so I’ve got lots of Aloha for the islands!
