I was in an area of the stadium that had more BYU fans directly around me and behind me than Ute fans.
They were obnoxious the whole game. And we’re poor winners and classless as we Ute fans were exiting as we left at the end of the game – doing the upside down U with their hands as we walked by all the while yelling and mocking our loss. I was stunned that not one Ute fan said anything during this. And I was stunned at the byu fan behavior- I’ve never been to a Holy War game (except one in the mid 80s that I hardly remember) and I guess I drank their Kool aid believing their never-ending claim that they have respect for opponents and behave themselves.
It was a rivalry game so I get the behavior. That said. I get annoyed when they claim to be above all else and claim something like “one percent of Ute fans are classy and one percent of BYU fans are classless” – not so based on my experience.
That said, all the BYU fans around me stood and had their phone lights on and cheered during the Moment of Loudness. For that I’ll give them lots of credit.
And that is the power of the Moment of Loudness.
