Why Whit should retire.

We all love Coach Whit but the time has come to move on. Here are my reasons.

1) Whit has emphasized defense to his own detriment.He’s taken promising offensive players and moved them to defense. His philosophy of being conservative and letting his defense win games at the end of games makes it difficult to recruit talent, especially in the “throw” game. You have to outscore high powered offenses in the game today. Nobody wants to play for teams that are run first, second and third in philosophy and become “blocking” receivers.

2) He’s lost a step in recognizing talent. Who was the last running back that was all conference or wide out or QB that we recruited?? You can move players around to other positions, but you shouldn’t have to if you recruit players at the position who have the talent to succeed.

3) Serious lapses in planning ahead. In this day of the portal. your forward planning should never be a true freshman quarterback as plan B, especially with the injury history of Cam Rising. There have been too many cases of being thin at various positions including safeties, linebackers and running backs.

4) Not using the portal effectively. How can byu go out and get 3-4 receivers who make ours look like 3rd stringers? How can former OC Aaron Roderick make them look like NFL draft picks. Was it because Whit’s philosophy of defense first and foremost smothers and surpasses all other objectives?

In conclusion, we wish Coach the best. We just need more innovation and a fresh reboot of the offense. When Ludwig came back we had a new approach utilizing tight ends, that was amazing. In this day and age you have to re-invent yourself. No new philosophy lasts because teams figure you out. You need developing strategies as seasons go on to keep opposing defenses guessing more of what you are and can do. I think we all kind of know what we are.
