Been hearing a lot of news about transfers out of schools across the country, but haven’t heard anything about Utah. Who, if anyone, has announced they are entering the portal?
I expected there to be a huge rush of outgoings immediately after the season ended, I’m surprised with how quiet it’s been.

Which leads me to believe they know who the OC is gonna be already. And they know Whitt’s plan and are comfortable with the direction of the program.
-
AlohaUteParticipant
I had that thought too. If that is the case, that’s pretty good leadership on Whit’s part.
I’ll also add, considering how many Seniors we have leaving the team this season, there will be a lot of open spots for playing time, so perhaps they are staying because they have opportunity here.

Interesting observation.

Glover is all that I can recall at the moment and is the only one listed on 247…🤷🏻♂️

Offensive guys have a lot of gripes but also not a lot of film to put out there for other teams.
Makes me wonder obviously about a lot of things. Could be Whitt and Scalley working wonders. Could be not a lot of market space for what Utah had offensively. I assumed Fano would be poached heavily. -

Glover and Pittman, so far, but we already knew that.

Rick WalkerParticipant
I think Pittman is just done playing football

Seemed obvious when he was on the field.

I think we all know that when it is all said and done there will probably be 10-15 guys transfer out. If we can limit the number of guys who can really contribute moving forward, we will be fine.

We have to cut our roster significantly this offseason, just like every other P4 school so departures are coming. The fact that none have been announced yet just tells me the staff has solidifying coaching hires as the #1 priority and haven’t yet had the difficult discussions that are due for multiple players.

I’ve been hearing this and don’t understand fully. Average roster size was somewhere around 120 (-125?) during the season but limited to 85 scholarships. It will go to 105, but all can get scholarships. So really, we need to trim, but it’ll be mostly walk-ons (who are currently 30% of D1 rosters and practice and play but don’t receive a scholarship), right? I saw somewhere SEC league games often use just around 55 players, and some of those are just a few snaps on special teams. So, really, it’s about keeping the 2-deep as much as possible.

The NCAA settlement sets maximum roster size at 105, all of which are eligible to be scholarship athletes. I believe Utah carries somewhere around 120-123 on the roster currently. That means that considering the portal players coming in, the high school players coming in, and seniors leaving, there needs to be net reduction of 15+ players to set the roster for next season. Bottom line is that there will be plenty of Utah players hitting the transfer portal in the coming weeks. It’s inevitable.

Many players around the country may be waiting until after the bowl/playoffs season is over before entering the portal, waiting until all teams are done playing and ready to focus on building next year’s squad.

Can’t this season. The window is 12/9/24 – 12/28/24. Last year it ran from 12/4 – 1/2.
-
SandersParticipant
I wish the players knew who the OC is going to be and what Whitt’s plan is. I think they’re just holding serve waiting to find out. There’s no way Whitt is going to tell 100 + 18 – 25 yr olds his and the U’s future plan is before it’s announced.
