And if he is regretting HCIW. I would be. The longer Whitt is in control and digger us deeper in a hole, the more difficult it will be for Morgan to climb out of it.

I love Whitt as he’s a Utah Man, BUT he is only going to hurt the program and the team for the long term!

K-Whitt is an anchor of Utah football, but is he now a drag on finances? His $7mm per could be used in a lot of ways…hopefully to win more than 5 games. Rumor is Scalley is upset that Whitt is making all the decisions, despite Scalley being told he could be part of the hiring process. This is just pure internet rumor from those claiming to know the inside goings on. But what’s not rumor is that Scalley had the opportunity to go be DC at USC, but was dissuaded with the coach in waiting and promise that he would be involved int he new hire coaches process. I wonder if Whitt just can’t let go.

Everyone on here should listen to five minutes of this interview (specifically from 16:30-21:30). Curious to hear if this changes anybody’s speculation about what’s going on behind the scenes.

That was over 2 weeks ago. Lots has changed since then and based on what has been reported, Whitt has not held up his end of the deal by allowing Morgan to be as involved as he should be in the OC hire. Yes, rumor, but it seems to be coming from more than 1 source. If Morgan is involved in not hiring these guys, that sounds like even a bigger issue.

Did you listen to it? I’m only questioning b/c I posted it at 9:36 and you responded at 9:41. It was a five minute video segment that I was highlighting. Maybe you were sitting there waiting for responses and so you saw my response immediately after I posted it and then immediately loaded the link, immediately found the segment I highlighted, proceeded to listen to the whole five minutes, and then immediately responded to my post…and you did this in five minutes?

I did listen. But how is this relevant right now? If this interview was last night, then yes. Lots has changed. And do think Morgan would bash Whitt and not back him up? Doesn’t sound like they agree on who to hire.
There are other strings on Ute Hub that talk about Morgan not really having a voice. That is all I am basing this on and again, as stated in my original post, this is all rumor. I don’t think anyone will know what is going on behind the scenes but if it is true and Morgan is wanting to hire these guys and Whitt says no, why have Morgan involved. That again just puts Morgan in more of a hole when he does take over. If Morgan doesn’t get to hire who he feels he wants now, we will have to hire another OC in 1-3 years when he does take over.

Who says he was involved in not hiring? Or that Whitt shut down those hires? Just because you offer someone a job, doesn’t mean they have to take it.
There are plenty of reasons Arbuckle would prefer Oklahoma over Utah, and Leftwich may want to stay closer to home and the recruiting grounds he’s more comfortable with.
It’s also possible I missed the article about Utah declining to offer those guys at all.

We keep talking about Whitt’s money but tied up in his decision to stay or go is that Scalley is leaving millions on the table every year Whitt stays. I may have the number wrong but I thought someone posted that Scalley’s first year as HC would be valued at 5.4 MM.
Not sure how long you ignore that delta from your coordinator salary before exploring other options?

I mean, clearly he knew that Whitt still had multiple years left on his contract.

I’m not arguing that Scalley did not know the situation at the time he signed. Human nature leads me to believe that he just might, kinda sorta, maybe, have the teensiest sliver of different mindset today than when he signed. And perhaps he might be more willing to listen if a P4 job came open that would pay him an equivalent salary to what he would be earning from Utah right now if Whitt decided to step down instead of at some point to be determined in the future if Whitt decides not to coach into his 80’s.
Because one of the other major assumptions everyone is making is that Whitt will not seek an extension after this contract is up. We are talking about a coach who has moved the bar back multiple times on what age he doesn’t intend to be coaching anymore. Thus, Scalley has a lot of currently unearnable money in his contract that is completely dependent on, not the whim, but certainly the mindset of his boss.

I don’t trust any of the gossip and rumors about culture dynamics (between coaches and players, etc.) b/c my own experience indicates that it’s turned out to be mostly just that: gossip and rumors. If I had reliable information about the situation and if I wasn’t part of the problem, there’s no way I would be spreading gossip and rumors as a “source”…
Scalley has worked w/ Whitt for 20 years. Whitt (and the program) gave him a second chance after he made a mistake that could have sunk his career (or at least set him back much further than we let him fall). I highly doubt he has changed his opinion in two weeks.
So we can trust gossip and rumors, or we can consider the facts about the situation: 1) Our recruiting class was not a disaster. It was pretty good. 2) We haven’t seen an exodus of important players leaving. Sure, we may have a few, but we also know that more of the most important players are staying. If the coaching staff was disgruntled and Whitt was causing problems, the evidence would be different (I think).
