Looking deeper Into this, leaves more questions than answers.

We have seen the stats of the #4 offense in the nation with a heavy run emphasis. RB and QB both had over 1000 yards rushing.

However, in his previous stops, Beck had a pretty good track record of QBs.

Stealing from Michelle Bodkin over at Utezone:

“Beck also has a proven track record developing quarterbacks over 10 seasons as a quarterback coach that have averaged 3,300 yards passing, and 509 yards rushing which averages out to 3,809 yards of total offense per season from the position under his watch.”

What will he provide, or be allowed to do with the QBs we have and scheme moving forward?

Did he go run heavy because Dempier isn’t the QB he needed, so they went with his athleticism?

Maybe there is something more here than originally thought, if Whitt allows it.

I still hope that Whitt retires (doubtful). If he does – I think Beck will open things up. He will build the offense around the skillset of he QB as he should.

Agreed, @Proud. This hire has Whitt written all over it, so don’t think he retires. We will see an improvement in the O, but the bar is super low.

I pray he retires! As much as I do love Coaching Whitt and what he’s done by building on what McBride and Meyer started, he’s now become the problem for the program and making the offense look worse by controlling and interfering too much. I think he can shoulder most of the blame for this season’s 5-7 record.

My biggest hope is that Beck will be able to do whatever is required to move the ball and score points with the personnel available to him. Hopefully he can also help QBs develop. We will see.

QB development is the biggest upside I see with Beck, which is also something that will hopefully pay dividends even with Whitt being his usual self (ie, pressuring offense to not risk turnovers, control the game clock, etc). However, is beck ready to be an OC at this level? We’ll see.

KW allows the same offensive philosophy he’s had for 20 years. Utah’s been down this same OC road many times with the same results. Nothing changes until KW leaves, to think otherwise is a set up for recurring disappointment. Beck will do what he is told and if the offense sputters he’s the fall guy. Rinse and repeat.

From what I heard, Beck put his foot down and told Whittingham that it’s his offense and his say and that he would take recommendations from him, but that it was his call. We’ll see if that actually holds up.
