OnlyuParticipantSolid hire in Beck. I like the RPO style (if in fact he’s able to actually run it as designed), portal acquisition is the key but we should be right back in the mix next year and frankly that’s what needs to happen the next few years. Just don’t fall off a cliff, stay in view and when the final shift happens we’ll be included.
I also think it points to Whitt staying for more than just another year which is a bit surprising as well. I’m now leaning to him finishing out his contract which I wouldn’t have said even a week ago. Things have changed. There was a growing feeling for the past few months that he was done after this year and he has thrown a bit of a curveball to many involved in the process.
Solid signing day, solid OC hire, solid returning experience…can they turn solid into good/great will be the question.

KW contract goes through 2027. Morgan is 45. I really don’t see him leaving at this point. He’s turned other offers. Why leave now when Kyle’s finish line is in sight?

ParticipantPerhaps because he’s been told that the finish line was right around the corner for years and it’s growing old?
He can double his salary tomorrow by heading to lead a P2 defense. He just has to tell his agent he’s open and someone would take him in a heartbeat.
He may love Utah, but everything has a price.

If that were true, he would have left long ago. Morgan is happy to be where he is and wants to keep his family in Utah.

ParticipantHe had this title years ago…and then they took it away for good reason. At the peak of cancel culture in the USA (2020), most programs would have fired him and moved on. Utah stuck w/ him. They reinstated that title less than six months ago. I’d be way surprised if he wasn’t fine w/ the current timeline and situation.

TrailgoatParticipantScalley’s got a sweet, well paid gig as DC he’s mastered. He’s guaranteed the HC job at Utah when KW finally leaves. MS likely inherits a rebuild with the way the past two years have gone. Risky move MS going somewhere else if he flounders as a HC. Utah is his dream job so he’ll stick it out during KWs rehab tour. Good move to wait it out while KW burns it down or has some renewed success. It’s really all about what KW wants to do not the coach speak drivel from KW, “he’ll do what’s best for the program”.

I’m sure it crossed his mind recently haha…but ultimately he’s got a great situation that will come to fruition sooner than later regardless AND in a place that he loves. A year or two longer is worth the wait when looking at the big picture imo

ParticipantI was told by a former Grad Assistant that is still very close to Scalley that he would rather sell cars in Utah than go anywhere else. He is an Utah man through and through.

I don’t know…he’s been around and has now been in regions that we’re not typically recruiting from but we obviously have some good recruiters on staff already.
Whitt has always hated recruiting but has somewhat adapted the past 8-10 years. Scalley, Swan, Shaw and Harding are the main guys. Lud wasn’t even a great recruiter so I don’t think it can be any worse if that helps??!!
Whitt and Lud have the respect of players because of their knowledge and experience but not because they are investing in quick, lasting relationships with these kids on the recruiting trail (until they’re on campus).

ParticipantNot sure what sources you have or what you can disclose but if Whitt is half the guy he seems to be from the outside, wouldn’t you think that he is aware that his offensive philosophy is outdated? I think the reason many were OK or hoping for him to step down is because he seems to have a blind spot or unwillingness to allow his team to play offense the way the modern game requires.
If he’s willing to start slowing turning things over to Scalley (let him run some additional meetings, start teaching him the secret sauce to be a good HC, etc.) and allows Beck to run the offense, I don’t think many will have a problem with him finishing out a few more years. The criticism comes from his perceived inability or stubbornness WRT the current state of football.

This last year seamed to be so painful for Whittingham. We had a pretty solid defense as usual, but our offense was playing at an excruciatingly low level. At times, Whittingham seemed just as frustrated as the fans by the offense. Has he seen his responsibility in the lack of offensive production yet, or do you think he believes another offensive coordinator will solve the issue? It seems to many of us that regardless of the OC, until Whittingham changes, very little will change about our offensive production.

Players loved Andy…but they knew he had to go. It was just time. I imagine Whitt sensed that as well. I don’t know if Coach is willing to change. My gut says no but I sure hope he does.
It comes down to a having a QB he can trust like he did with Cam. He would win the flip and take the ball…when in his coaching career did that ever happen except for those two years?
If the QB plays well, Beck has a long leash.
