“Utah’s Isaac Wilson going to the NCAA Transfer Portal has been expected ever since around mid-season. Both sides will likely be better off with this development.”

SMH now we’re returning almost none of our interception production.

As recently as yesterday, I wanted Wilson to stay at Utah. However, I learned some things yesterday about Wilson (off the field) that changed my mind. Isaac needs to leave Utah for his own personal reasons.

His off the field behavior and how he has acted in the locker room now makes me happy he is leaving. I had high hopes for Isaac, but …

He needs to leave the state of Utah and start fresh. I hope he has learned and will be better wherever he decides to go. I truly hope he gets his life in order and has a successful college career.

Agree with all that’s been said. This one feels like a relief. I hope he finds success somewhere else, but I won’t be holding my breath.

On the other hand losing Rose is unfortunate because I really feel like he cares and is more talented than he’s been given a chance to show yet. It clearly felt like the team was much more in sync with him than they were with Wilson as has been widely rumored.

I think you’ve got to move on if you are Rose. Wilson, especially with that family, is a nightmare and it sounds like Whitt will be just as happy he’s gone if the rumored arguments about playing time are true.

I am pretty sure I have heard the same things. The difference in the way the team resonded to Bollatari and Wilson on the sidelines tells you everything.

What are these off the field things? Like being a dick to other players, parents fighting Whit, or is there more to it?

I never wanted Isaac to be a Ute. I remember thinking Utah must have stopped recruiting culture when he got offered. Then I hoped he may have matured but it seems he hasn’t so I’m more than fine with this

I hope this combined with Rose leaving does not lean toward Rising returning. If Rising holds this team hostage another year, I’m out until he and Whit are gone.

I’d be beyond shocked if Beck would agree to having Rising be an Ute next season. You’d think that he would want to stake his future with his own guys.

Honestly…if Beck doesn’t make any changes to the offensive coaching staff, especially at RB coach…

Then I’m not sure Beck has any say in how the offense is run.

Well, as has been said multiple times, just because you enter the Portal doesn’t mean you leave. Bottari entered the Portal after last season, signed with Cal but then returned to Utah in the Spring. There have also been cases of players entering the Portal but never actually leaving. I’m kind of wondering where Isaac is going to go because I’d be absolutely shocked if any top team brought him in.

I see him as a candidate for the new PAC or the MWC. Maybe he can sign on with an SEC or B1G bottom dweller. I doubt that say a Georgia or a team of that ilk would have any interest in him given his tape.

I 100% agree. I remember looking at his offer sheet during his recruitment and thinking he’d get the best chance to ball out if he committed to San Jose State

Well, that’s the beauty of modern college football. Now, he gets a second bite of the apple and live out his life long dream of being a Spartan. San Jose isn’t a bad place to go to school. If he’s smart enough he can get a job at Google after he graduates.

I watched San Jose State in a couple games this year and their QB looked head and shoulders better than Wilson. Not sure if he graduated or not but generally their offense looked good.

Which one? Walker Eget or Emmett Brown? San Jose State this season reminded me of FSU in the late 70s in the sense that they used two QBs extensively.

Seriously I could care less. I’ve said this a few times. Dude wanted the smoke and then p**sed all over himself. Then leaves. Week ass. I don’t care if he was a freshman there was a reason he was number 2. Coaches are to blame for that also. But they don’t control IW attitude.

I’d expect Dampier to follow Beck and join soon and they’ll likely bring in another.

Rising is not in a position to hold anyone hostage at Utah. If he is granted another year AND if he wants to stay he won’t tie up much, if any, NIL at Utah. If he’s trying to get paid again it will be elsewhere.

Regarding Rising, those are exactly my thoughts. His leverage is zero. If he’s healthy, or as healthy as he can possibly be, then he’d make a decent veteran backup. However, that’s also dependent on what offense Beck installs. I do hope that you’re correct about Dampier.

Rising won’t survive in Beck’s true RPO offense. Dampier in 2024, 155 carry’s for 1,166 yards. In Rising’s few run plays, he looked a step slow. Small sample of work due to injuries of course. That said, we’ll likely see the KW, sabotaged version of Beck’s offense. 2025 is the KW rehab attempt tour and collecting his pay check.

Rising is actually in a great spot. He may be the first ever million dollar backup in college football history. Imagine what Georgia would give right now to have Cam Rising coming in as an insurance policy heading into the playoffs. The boosters pay, he holds the clipboard and if your stud QB goes down you have a star level backup who you are not relying on to stay healthy all year.

As it relates to Utah, it appears that Beck has been doing exit interviews since he got here and a good chunk of these fringe starters/prospects are seeking their entertainment elsewhere which I think bodes well for a shift to Beck’s offense. I almost chuckle when after 3 solid months of hearing people on this board say “burn it to the ground” and then when the fire finally starts they run for their buckets.

I’m not certain there’s any school out there that can give Rising $1M to just sit on the sidelines. One, he’s experienced but experienced in Utah’s system. Two, he’s already proven multiple times that he’s an extremely fragile QB. That means that he can even get hurt while playing garbage time or in a substitute role. Three, if you give Rising $1M to roam the sidelines or carry a clipboard, that means that you have $1M less to devote to players that can actually make a difference. The easy button would be for Rising to return at an extremely reduced NIL rate. I would guess that he’s doing his due diligence and seeing if there are any takers out there before making a final decision. His problem is that he’s had so many major injuries that it’s unlikely that any team of note will be truly interested.

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but the dog water offense this season had more to do with player execution than scheme. Kuithe, Singer, and Bernard were the only ones consistently executing all year and that was in spite of having to make circus catches on simple timing routes, breaking off routes they had separation on because someone was holding the ball waiting to get sacked, or running into 9 guys who were being blocked by 6 because someone could not be trusted execute an intermediate play action pass.

              Players make plays… Or not.

Agree, players make plays and coaches coach. Execution is some combination of both.

It’s just counterintuitive to me to replace the roster while keeping largely the same staff. Because wasn’t that staff in charge of finding and coaching up the players to the point where they could execute at the required level?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see some movement on the staff front in the coming weeks. The players are on more of a time crunch. Most of the assistant targets are still coaching right now.

Interesting. You think the assistant’s Utah might be targeting are on playoff teams? I’d imagine that anyone else would be fair game since bowls haven’t seemed to stop people from taking other jobs.

Head coaches and coordinators seem to move before bowl games, position coaches generally finish out the season with their teams and show up later. At least that seems to be how it goes.

I think in today’s reality, players that do not break into their desired playing time consider a quick change. If you bring in a dozen portal players there will be lateral competition not just players behind you for minutes vacated by those ahead. If players that are not in regular rotation leave it is not the issue it once was. As for offensive staff, I am waiting to see more WR and RB coaching come to the field.

Wilson is an entitled prima donna and we don’t need him. Players like him are a cancer in the locker room. As soon as he was benched you could see this coming from a mile away. Good riddance IW.

I’m curious if Onlyu or Ghost want to elaborate, however, much of what has been said IS true about Wilson. Unfortunately, that’s what NIL brings…promises that coaches feel they need to uphold (by boosters etc as well). Entitled attitude by player (and parents) lead to much behind the scenes drama. Captains finally had to go to coaches…aka Rose starting against TDS. ✌🏻out Wilson. Glad to see a fresh start in the QB room this next season (other than Rose)
