I have seen a lot of commentary around here lately with a focus on NIL, ‘last straw’, ‘CFB is ruined’, ‘no longer a fan’, etc.

Is the current model a bit of a downer at the moment? Yes.
Does it seem like the Wild West? Also, yes.

I respect everyone’s right to ‘fan’ how they would like. This is, after all, entertainment.
If you are not entertained, find something else to do.

However, when it comes to the game of football, does this really change all that much?
It will still be 11 on 11 (at least, usually).
There will still be tackling, throwing, running, kicking, blocking, and refball.

There will still be the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’. This is nothing new.

The nature of college football has largely been influenced by the coming and going of players and coaches.
Coaches come in hoping to find success and get a raise, or get paid more somewhere else.
Players have typically come in to play, get better, graduate, and hopefully get drafted.
Now, players simply have the additional option of getting paid more somewhere else, just like the coaches.

Does it hurt to see a good player leave? Yes, it does.
Do we wish we could keep all our good players? Yes, we do.

Utah was never getting 5 star guys to begin with. With the portal, we may have a chance with some of them who aren’t satisfied with their current situation.
Utah is also able to potentially plunder other programs (sorry New Mexico) for their over-performing players.

What I am trying to say, is that the game we enjoy watching is still largely the same.
I don’t see how you could not be entertained by it now, if you were entertained by it before.

Players will be coming and going, just like they have been before; the timeline is just different.
Plus, they can earn money. Which, let’s be honest, we all want.
