I know it’s a dead horse, but I got to thinking yesterday. Since we often heard about how Ludwig’s offense was Pro-style, and took three years to learn… Why didn’t Utah have more NFL QBs? BJ, didn’t stick, Cam isn’t making it, Snoop progressed but wasn’t a sure thing in the NFL and went undrafted. What other QBs did Ludwig have which DID NOT make the pros with his “pro-style” system?

I don’t care about having a pro-style offense for the Utes. I care about wins and an offense that can score enough with our great defense to win 8-9 games every year. 10-11 in we good years.

When Whitt won’t allow the QB to throw the ball outside to WR’s, or more than 7 yards unless it’s off play action, you get very easy to defend.

The problem with the offense is Whittingham, because no matter who the OC is, we have the same problems.

Oregon makes a living with short passes. Seems to work for them.

What’s ironic is the ‘pro-style’ is becoming more simplified except for the best of qbs. So a college system that takes that long to learn rarely actually gets them ready for the pros. All the rage are the Caleb Williams, Bryce Young, Jayden Daniels with ‘playmaking’ abilities. Many offenses are more short passes with occasional deep ball and some more limited runs now it seems. But it still comes down to the ability to read the defense and adjust the play or read.

With yearly turnover on teams, going to Beck from Ludwig hopefully will allow the offense to get into place in shorter time periods (Whit acknowledge this). I don’t think complex college offensive schemes are possible now. Unless it’s built over 2 years with the same qb sticking around.
