Well this has been an eventful last month and especially eventful day with Keanu announcing he’s bouncing. What’s the vibe on the hill? I feel like there’s a lot of momentum with the offense. I always trust a Scalley defense but you can only take so many vultures coming and taking your guys without it having a big effect. This NIL and portal s**t really needs structure and guardrails. Especially for schools like us to compete. Go Utes!

Positive vibes around the program, Tanu’s announcement notwithstanding. Hard to see a guy who loves it here leave but I’ll save my portal rant for a day that’s NOT Christmas Eve!
Strong portal additions to go with what’s coming back. QB play is obviously key but having an experienced “athlete” running the offense is really important and allows for a productive spring.
Plenty of G5 “guy” comments but the majority of the signings were from P4 schools and filled positions of need and the HS class was very strong (all things considered) as well.
No uncertainty in the building with Whitt coming back…Still need to add a high quality WR and now a DL (but not worried about that position honestly).
Ultimately I’m pleasantly surprised with what’s happened the past few weeks. Some nice surprises that should at least generate some interest into next fall.
Merry Christmas and go Utes!

Onlyu…any smoke to the rumors of Snowden getting big offers and potentially pulling a KT?

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I hadn’t been taking these transfers very well. It feels like after the results of just one year, we’d effectively squandered years of hard work, and strong recruiting, and lost all our momentum. Two years ago, when there was speculation that the BigTen might expand, Utah was sitting pretty high in the catbird seat for consideration. But now, with the reemergence of Colorado, coupled with their weekly dominant viewership ratings, I feel like if the BigTen opted to raid the Big XII today, they’re only taking the Buffaloes. A powerhouse “Utah” program can weather CU’s superior Nielson ratings, but we stand no chance when they’re dominating both key metrics. At this point, all we’ve got going for us is our AAU status, but now Arizona St has that too. And look where THEY’RE at right now! They have one of the largest alumni associations in the country, and they’re already a Top-4 seed in the CFP.
Please assure us that the past 2-yrs some anomalous hiccup, and that we’ll be back to our late “Pac-12” form, annually challenging for a conference title, and beating the Buffs & Devils!

CU has clearly realized a big gain recently in the football landscape, however, there is no reason to believe this gain will persist longer than Sanders and there is no reason to believe he will remain in Colorado much beyond his sons eligibility. ASU has achieved AAU status but in the academic world there is a pecking order even at this level and ASU is some distance behind schools like UofA and UofU. I think everyone knows the Big-12 last year was a random shootout of many and leaves next year with almost everyone having a chance to win. The last two years have stopped Utah’s progress but we still have not fallen. Contend for the championship next year and our spot can remain. Our best future hope is not so much the B1G but the return to regional football conferences with élite programs in every region.

Let’s see what the roster actually looks like at the beginning of the season .. we’ve taken some unexpected hits .. biggest upgrades have been at QB and RB , if we can keep them.. but the depth behind is concerning and beyond that we’ve lost more than we’ve gain at this point. tanuvasa and Calhoun aren’t easy fixes and were obvious differences makers on the field

CharlieParticipant
Keep in mind Kenan Johnson started over Calhoun when healthy and he is coming back. Rabbit Evans is another awesome replacement. Tanavasa and Pepa were good for the DT group, however, Utah always seems to have an embarrassment of riches at this position.

Just remember, the portal goes both ways. Yes we lost some talent, nut there is plenty of talent from other schools that are transferring too.
The portal takes and it gives. If you only focus on it’s takes, you’ll be miserable.
Also it’s the new normal and we’ll lose people every season. And so will every team. So don’t lose any sleep over it.

No two ways about it, S U C K S to lose talented players like Calhoun and Keanu (leader on the team as well).
Wish I had the time to go through other BIG12 teams and see what they’re losing.
My thought is if every team is losing players, what is the talent level they’re losing, and do they even have good enough players for teams like Bama and U$C to throw huge bags at causing them to leave.

Oklahoma has lost 26 players to the transfer portal. Some of the bigger names that Oklahoma has lost include quarterback Jackson Arnold, wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway, linebacker Dasan McCullough, wide receiver Brenen Thompson, wide receiver Nic Anderson, tight end Bauer Sharp, wide receiver J.J. Hester, wide receiver Jalil Farooq and wide receiver Andrel Anthony.
