ParticipantWhat did you pay? Or what would a ball park range be that you’d expect?
I have a 2500 Sq ft house. The roof measurement is around 4300 sq ft though. I was quoted $40k for just the roof but $56k because they’d have to remove and reinstall solar panels. That seems awful steep to me. We have a couple other companies coming by to give estimates, but thought I’d ask the brain trust.
Besides the board is awful quiet, we could use something to talk about.

ParticipantLOL…I remember not long ago when you could get a decent house for $56K. Now, that only gets you a roof? Inflation is a bitch….

ParticipantI should’ve been looking into real estate instead of not yet existing.

ParticipantI vividly remember driving to UVU and NPR was talking about bitcoin being $10. I was like “man, if I had $10 I’d totally buy that”. But that was my top Ramen money for the week.

ParticipantWe had ours reroofed in 2017. The house is a two story, so the roof Sqft is smaller. Lifetime architectural shingles. About 1/3rd the cost you were quoted.

ParticipantYou’ll save many 1000s getting that requoted.

ParticipantAs an example I had 3 quotes on a 6 foot wood fence last year. 7 years ago the quote was $30 linear foot. Last year was $100, $60 and $53 a linear foot and the only guy that used 6×6 posts in his quote was the $53 guy.

ParticipantPaid $16k in 2018. Removed 2 layers existing on 2500 sf home. No panels. Even with inflation it feels high. Get a couple of other quotes and you’ll know for sure

ParticipantWe had some wind damage and had to have the whole roof replaced via an insurance claim last fall. My house is 2800 sq ft and new roof, gutters, and an upgrade to ridge line venting ended up just shy of 20K. Of course in my case the price was determined by the insurance company. Also about 2.5K of the overall cost was due to having to put 3/8″OSB down plus the labor before the new roof could be installed as that is current code. Otherwise it would have been a little less.

ParticipantThe best and cheapest is Tim Dolbin. He’s the head of the math department of Waterford and he roofs in the summers. He’ll go with you over to Home Depot and have you buy all the material. Then he’ll show up with one or more of his sons and knock it out. He’s been doing it for 15+ years. Best price for sure. He’ll do the tear off or allow you to do it to save on costs. He’s good.
