Watching first half of St Johns vs UConn. Smith actually looks like a point guard. Amazing what a good coach can do with player development. He is playing within the system and picking his spots to score. Yes he has better players around him but playing under control and not over dribbling or trying to do too much. He looks like a different player.

He’s playing for a better coach, yes, a legendary coach with a resume a mile long. He’s also a 5th year senior and averaging worse points and assists than last season with Utah – by a lot.

He is also on the #10 ranked team. Pittino has made a big difference in his game. He looks like a true point guard and gets his teammates the ball.

And 3 less assists per game.

Remember, Deivon would still be at Utah if we just injected average money into the program. What would having Deivon this year make our sorry-ass guard situation look like?

I have to think that, at this point of the season, this Utah team with Deivon would easily be three to five wins better. Just off the top of my head, with him, we probably beat Saint Mary’s at home, probably beat Mississippi State on the road, and definitely win the away games versus OK St, WV, and UCF. If we just win three of those, we’re sitting at 18-9 and firmly on the bubble and in the conversation for an NCAA berth.

Deivon looked like the best player on the team to me- granted I was only able to see them play in person once. It was the Iowa NIT game and Deivon was very good.

Madsen and Deivon would be a solid duo and the team would be significantly better.

Utah will not compete until it has funding to keep its best players as an absolute minimum. Enough funding to poach other team’s best players would obviously move the program up a notch.

Hard to believe we couldn’t make the tournament last year. This year record is similar to last year in a better conference and without Smith and Carlsen.

I still believe with a healthy Worster along side Devon down the stretch, we would have been in the tourney last year.
