Personally, I would prefer Richard Pitino or Porter Moser over Alex Jensen or Andre Miller only because I don’t want to see Alex Jensen or Andre Miller‘s legacy potentially tarnished.

I get your point but take a look at Ty Detmer. I don’t get the sense that byu fans think less of him as a player because he flamed out as a coach. I’m not going to pretend to know more than you about basketball coaches. I just hope Harlan gets the best there is for the Runnin Utes.

We need someone who knows how to coach at Utah! Alex would know how to coach at Utah.

Even under Rick Majerus, without Jeff Judkins, who helped Majerus learn how to be a successful coach at Utah (recruiting and landing the top local talent, getting a good mixture of role players and NBA talent, etc), Utah wasn’t winning at the rate they did early on.

Even the 1990 team that went 30-4 was full of local talent (Josh Grant, Jimmy Soto, et al).

I’m very optimistic Alex Jensen will be the next Utah Basketball head coach.

Andre Miller on the staff would be incredible!

I think 95% of our fan base wants Jensen. Give him a bag to try and get him here. I’d think he’d be more willing to leave Dallas with Luka gone. Let’s step up and give this basketball program a shot in the arm.

He might not be the only one. Seems like the current ownership group values money above everything else. Also definitely seems that whatever shot they had to be relevant in the NBA playoffs is gone.

I honestly believe Harlan is just as likely to go after a mediocre Junior Jazz coach…

Harlan is not calling the shots here. He had his chance he hired his guy when he hired Smith and the boosters showed their displeasure by not supporting him with NIL.

The boosters want Miller Jensen or both. President Randle will make the ultimate decision so when it comes to basketball Harlan has been chopped off at the knees.

Utah by law for any state position need to post the job and do interviews but it’s gonna be Alex or Andre and possibly both. The Whales will make sure of it.

I have to say that if the next head coach isn’t Alex Jensen, it’ll feel like a bust for me. Both Coach K and Smith were serial winners and a regular presence at the Dance before coming to Utah. So, for me, that means that I’m very lukewarm on a coach that’s won in a lower conference without Utah ties. As we’ve seen, the Utes haven’t had a good track record with those guys. Finally, hard pass on Richard Pitino. I’ve been kind of stalking his career since he started at FIU in Miami. He had all of the support in the world and a ton of patience from both the fans and administration in Minnesota and couldn’t get it done there.

I hear you Miami. I’ve followed Ute bb since the old Einer Neilson fieldhouse( pre Huntsman). We need to get the best local talent and find players to fit a system. We can’t get the big stars so have to settle for secondary talent. Jensen would be best at local recruiting because of his local ties and he is LDS which helps with the locals. Miller would be my second pick. Bryant would be my #1 but he isn’t leaving the NBA.

I’ve always thought Jonnie woudld be a good option, but it was interesting to hear Josh Grant’s opinion on that. He said something to the effect of “he’s just a developmental coach” which sounds good to me, but I guess he’s saying that Bryant is a little light on the X’s and O’s.

Of course Jensen is the best option though. He’s option 1, 2, and 3. If they whiff on him this time I’ll not be stoked. And I hope the U did their due diligence testing the waters with Alex before they cut Smith loose.

I listened to the Tony Jones interview (he follows the NBA). He knows the local market and Bryant was his first pick. He raved about Bryant’s credibility in the NBA and his development skills would make him the best recruiter. He is next in line for an NBA head coaching job (according to Jones) so would have little interest in the Utah job.

Jenson and Miller together would be the ultimate coaching staff.

I wish I would stop hearing about Richard Pitino, he is not a good coach.
