3-14 for the game…all 3’s… no other different shot taken… he has the ability to change it up and Utah desperately needs playmakers, but he chooses not to mix it up. He’s a pitcher that only throws fast balls.

It doesn’t help that the team commits so many turnovers. Last night, 17 turnovers, was typical of the season. The Utes continually gift opposing teams large numbers of possessions which translate into more points. Hopefully, Jensen’s teams will be more disciplined from the get-go.

That stat drives me crazy Miami. So hard to watch. Other than Azur and KD nobody else can finish at the rim. So we overpass driving. Plus our 7’0 center is either at the top of the key or can’t score posting up one on one. No double teams and the shooters are covered.

The turnovers problem is in large part due to not having any guards that can create off the dribble. The offense is almost completely reliant on running strictly executed sets to create opportunities, which results in players often forcing bad passes in those sets because they don’t really know what else to do. Compare this to TDS, who has four+ players who can effectively drive and finish. They got so many driving layup/assist opportunities from Demin, Saunders, Hall, Baker (+18 points in the paint). Our guards can neither dribble penetrate and finish/create on offense nor stop dribble penetration on defense.

Dawes, Ausar, Wahlin can be decent holdovers, but the backcourt can be a complete rehaul as far as I’m concerned.

Btw, Ausar has managed to greatly improve his FT shooting over the last month. He has shot 79% (45-57) in the last seven games and averaged 17 pts, 6.8 reb — excellent productivity and efficiency. He actually leads the conference in FTAs. If he can continue at this improved FT%, he becomes a much more efficient player with the rate at which he draws fouls.

Man, GM did everything asked of him and more on a crappy team with very little help. Madsen on a team with better talent would have been fun to watch. Ball handling and driving to the basket is not his game. When no other player can handle the ball, drive to the basket or make lay ups someone has to step in. Watched the BYU game and spots of other games during the season, nothing really changed with or without Smith. Asst coach did a good job coaching up the players to close out the season strong. Ausar, Dawes, and Wahlin had incentive to play hard if they want to build NIL value to get picked up by other teams. Not sure why they wouldn’t shop around for a stable team with a decent NIL deal.

I hope Jensen will retain Wahlin Dawes Mike S. and Asur. They could form a good nucleus for next year. We need a point guard 2 guard and center.

Could be. But when a team game plans to run you off the 3 point line and take away any good looks, do you drive and dish or just jack up 21%?

I thought Gabe had better looks than he usually gets in most games. He just missed too many of those better looks. But I never questioned his effort or commitment.

I do wish he could’ve developed a pull-up jumper from about 10′ out as a counter to teams taking the 3 away, but I get the “money ball” shot selection of paint points or 3 balls.

Hitting 40-50 percent from 15 feet is more productive than 3 out of 14 (21%) from 3 point range.

Little heats up from time to time (kept the game in Provo from becoming quite ugly). Would like to see him stay around. Gets consistent minutes and could become a valuable asset.

I think the team’s biggest problem over the last few years is Madsen is the only guy who can come off-ball and somewhat create his own shot. The team has been too dependent on his 3pt shooting.

If he’s hot, teams have to give him attention and other guys get easier looks. If he has an off night, no one else has been able to step up.
