ParticipantSeems like a decent player with some room to grow. We now have 4 guys. Dawes, Okonkwo, Jackson, and Brown. Seems like a decent MWC team so far. We better get a headliner or we are really going to struggle next year. That is, unless one of these guys suddenly blossoms into a star.

ParticipantI’m sorry I forgot. Remind me which nba team you are the GM of???
I’ll tell you the first thing Alex is doing is getting guys that can compete athletically in the big12.
Alex knows you only need three to four really good basketball players to compete a high level. The rest of the team needs to be hustle guys, grinders, glue guys, scrapers. Guys willing to do the dirty work.
Watch his highlight video. He’s 6’8” 240lbs high energy motor guy. Not a star but if he gets you 8 & 10 every night you take that. He’s a roll guy a puzzle piece.

ParticipantAm I wrong? I have yet to see any justification other than bluster for why I’m wrong. I don’t know why I’m getting downvoted other than people just not liking to face reality. So far we have one guy who scored 20-ish a game playing for a tiny school, a guy who started half his games at mighty SLCC, a guy who was in and out of the rotation for us last year, and a guy who averaged like 8 pts and 8 rebounds on an MWC level team after not getting the PT he wanted in the Big12. That’s it, that’s our entire team thus far.
What is so wrong with suggesting we need better players than we are currently getting? I’m not making predictions. I’m not claiming we won’t get those players, I’m just pointing out a need.
All of those things are objective facts.I’m not predicting doom. I’m not claiming this team is going to suck. I’m not saying these guys are bad. I’m not saying they won’t be better for us than they were wherever else they played.
We heard all about how we have a new coach (who isn’t currently doing his new job, which I understand), and more NIL and how we were going to see an improvement, but that improvement hasn’t happened yet. The guys we are getting now are the same level of players we got in the portal last year.
I’m just saying we need better players than these guys if we are going to be better than we were last year. That isn’t a terrible thing. With better coaching, last year’s team would have made the tourney.
Also, so far, our contributors on last year’s team were, at least on paper, no worse than the guys we have right now. I’m sure good coaching and increased fan support will help some, but if we want to compete in the Big 12 we need Big 12 players.

ParticipantNo you’re not wrong. You’re just stating the facts. Ratings are a pretty reliable source and indicator of talent. Utah lacked good players last year. Occasionally things would come together and they played pretty well. But overall, it’s not a matter of opinion – they were mediocre. If Dawes is our best player next year it won’t be much different than last year. One good player does not a tournament team make. I keep hearing we have an increased availability of NIL funds but am I missing the announcements of legit player or players signing?

ParticipantI hear you man! Us fans are going to have to trust the process. Just because we don’t think these new commits may not look like Big12 caliber doesn’t mean the new coaching staff thinks that or at least can turn them into some diamonds from the rough! We have to give the new players and coaching staff a chance before we judge the books by their covers. I know that maybe easier said than done, but we have to trust the process and be patient.

ParticipantAren’t you the guy that said Mike Shravjamts was going to be really good?

Participantlol… that was biased wishful thinking/tongue in cheek joking on my part. I am Mongolian in every way other than genetics so my opinion on all things Mongolia can’t really be trusted.
Also, he is a great passer, and he would have been a solid piece on a good team.

Participant@chinngiskaan is right. Bench players from SLCC are not going to get it done.
All of you down voters are lame.
Yes, I’m willing to give it more time, but part of his point was that the kid from SLCC wasn’t even starting or playing much. Down vote me too if you must, but those are the facts. I too think we need a headliner.

ParticipantWell said.
Okonkwo’s stats may not blow anyone away, but the guy is a rebound beast. Last year he had a number of games when he grabbed more than 10 boards. A couple games he grabbed 15 or 16.
That is sorely needed in today’s game. He won’t be a major scoring option, but he will clean up the glass like a champ.
Nuff said!
