      Death.

      Taxes.

Utah basketball going on a 4 minute scoring drought.

Seriously, when is the last time we didn’t allow a team to go on a huge run? I’m not talking about the second half of tonight’s game. It happened in the first half with our starters. It’s so frusterating. And we had a 28 point lead and only barely won?! WTF??!! This game almost feels like a loss.

But it wasn’t a loss, it was a win.  Ultimately, what difference does it make what the final score was, or what occurred within the game?  Larry took the starters (and important backups) out with a big lead, thinking it was safe, while OSU kept their starters in.  The predictable occurred as a result.  Larry was forced to bring the boys back in for a couple of clean-up minutes.  Who cares?  Why are you guys worried about the cosmetic value of the game?  A win is a win.  Don’t you have more important things to fret about?

Oregon  State is bad… really, really bad. Allowing a comeback like that is  unacceptable. Period.

Unacceptable, period?  What does that mean?  We should fire the coach?  Dismiss the players?  Quit being fans?  Your language is that hyperbolic.  Relax, get over it and accept the win.

I mean we shouldn’t allow the worst team in the conference to come back from 28 down. That’s what I mean. And I’m quite relaxed, thanks.

Good, I’m glad you are.  As an ideal, I agree with what you just said, but the circumstances were such that it happened.  Their starters are better than our third stringers.  Nothing to get into a cold sweat about.  I’m going to enjoy the win and think about the next game.  Their failed comeback has no other bearing on our season.

Basketball is a game of runs, always has been and always will be.  Nearly every game you ever watch is filled with runs. One team makes an adjustment and it takes time for the other team to sort it out.  Or somebody gets a hot hand or someone gets in foul trouble, or whatever.  Bottom line is that the good teams don’t panic and return with a run of their own.  We did so and got up 28.  It was dismaying to see that our second/third string couldn’t at least maintain the majority of that 28 point lead against a team as bad as Oregon State.  But I guess the lesson is that even the worst team in the league gas players that are better than our bench, which means we need to look to build depth for next year.

A deep tournament run is not going to be possible until we are 2 to 3 deep at 4/5 and 2 to 3 deep at the 3/4.  Right now we have Collette & Kuzma then it drops off precipitously.  Any team with half a brain will just get them in foul trouble and we are f’d.  Colorado apparently somehow managed to get Oregon in foul trouble, something we weren’t able to do in the Hunty and will be unlikely to be able to do in Eugene.  I’m a bit annoyed because this just may be the best/deepest backcourt we’ve ever had, but I think we are limited by our front court.  But alas, you can’t always have everything, we are still building towards that team that can make a run.  I will say that I think this team has the talent to make the run, but they would just need too much help from he officials, and you can’t ever bank on that.  I seriously hope we dont get screwed at Cal this week.  They aren’t super deep in the front court either, so lets hope its called even whichever way it goes.
