For Russian blackmail? Apparently administration was warned about this ahead of time? Anybody k is anything more about this?

He’s been under fire for telling the Russians he would look into the sanctions prior to being actually appointed, then lying to the VP about what he discussed.

And we’re surprised by this because…?
Remember, all those things like cyber-security, deficits, pay-for-play, being in the pocket of Wall Street…these things are only bad when a DEMOCRAT does them.
-
Utahute72Participant
Because it was resolved the way it should have been in a timely manner, unlike Hillary’s issues.
-
SkinyUteParticipant
You mean those ones that were investigated over and over and over with no charges being brought forward? Those issues?

Sally Yates, the acting AG, had delivered the message to the White House about Flynn’s Russia exposure. Betcha Trump was eager to fire her.
If there hadn’t been recordings of the calls it would have been swept under the rug. Kelly Ann said he had 100% of drumpfs support less than 24 hours ago. Get off your cricket 72🙄🙄

Utahute72Participant
Doesn’t mean there shouldn’t have been charges. In fact some investigators suggested charges, but the Obama administration refused to charge.

Good thing we have an overzealous congressmen/ ethics oversight chairman from Utah who will certainly leave no stone unturned looking into this… Jason? Jason? Where are you??

Sorry, he’s super busy right now investigating “Sid the Science Kid”.
The chairman of the powerful panel — the main investigative committee in the House — sent a letter to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention demanding to know why, in an attempt to raise awareness of the Zika virus, “CDC appears poised to make a sole source award to the Jim Henson Company for $806,000 to feature Sid the Science Kid in an educational program about the virus.”

Republican convention flashback: Flynn says nobody is ‘above the law’, leads ‘Lock her up!’ chant
Also interesting that in his resignation letter he apologized for misleading/lying to Pence and others but does not say anything about lying to trump. What did he know and when did he know it?
-
HoopUteParticipant
Anyone who doesn’t think there was a very good chance that Trump and, possibly, Pence knew about Flynn’s contact with the Russians before he did it is living in denial. This needs to be investigated to the fullest to ensure we don’t have felons throughout the Executive Branch (I believe we do) and aren’t seeing a Watergate-style cover-up. But, Jason’s busy making unsubstantiated claims about people being paid to be mean to him, so that investigation isn’t likely to happen.

SkinyUteParticipant
This article has a really good timeline of how this all played out. Sounds like Pence knew the discussion between Flynn and the Russians took place, but whether he was aware of the substance of that discussion is currently up for debate. The administration says Flynn lied to him about it, and I doubt they’ll be in much of a hurry to investigate that claim.

Here’s the transcript of Flynn’s comments last July, for anyone interested. I’m guessing he may end up regretting this part:
LT. GEN. MICHAEL FLYNN, RETIRED INTELLIGENCE, U.S. ARMY: That’s right. Lock her up. That’s right. Lock her up. I’m going to tell you what, it’s unbelievable; it’s unbelievable.
(Chanting Lock Her Up!)
FLYNN: Yes; I use — I use #neverHillary; that’s what I use. I have called on Hillary Clinton, I have called on Hillary Clinton to drop out of the race because she, she put our nation’s security at extremely high risk with her careless use of a private e-mail server.
(Applause and Cheering)
FLYNN: Lock her up. Lock her up.
{Chanting Lock Her Up!)
FLYNN: You guys are good. Damn right; exactly right. There’s nothing wrong with that.
(Chanting Lock Her Up!)
FLYNN: And you know why; and you know why? You know why we’re saying that? We’re saying that because if I, a guy who knows this business, if I did a tenth, a tenth of what she did, I would be in jail today. So — so, Crooked Hillary Clinton, leave this race now!
(Applause and Chanting Lock Her Up!)

Oh, and for those expecting Chaffetz to exhibit the same resolve he had when relentlessly pursuing Clinton, don’t hold your breath.
Rep Jason Chaffetz R-UT tells reporters there's no need to further probe Flynn. "It’s taking care of itself"

Q: "Are you not curious about what Trump aides knew about (Flynn)? Chaffetz: "It's taking care of itself at this point"

Flynn made a big mistake and lied to Pence about it. It’s good that he’s gone. Now Trump needs to figure out who leaked the transcripts of Flynn’s call. The bad actors need to be thrown out immediately.
-
UteriderParticipant
So the person who saw or learned of possible criminal activity by Flynn should be exposed and thrown out immediately? The DOJ is who knew about it, and Sally Yates reported it to the President. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to work? Or is the loyalty to be toward the President and not the law?

Flynn was interviewed by the FBI right after Trump took office, and it appears he may have lied to them under oath. I hope he has a good lawyer.
The interview raises the stakes of what so far has been a political scandal that cost Mr. Flynn his job. If he was not entirely honest with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, it could expose Mr. Flynn to a felony charge. President Trump asked for Mr. Flynn’s resignation on Monday night.
While it is not clear what he said in his F.B.I. interview, Mr. Flynn maintained publicly for more than a week after his interview that his conversations with the ambassador had been innocuous and did not involve Russian sanctions, something now known to be false.
How a career Military Intelligence officer didn’t know all of his calls with the Russian Ambassador would be recorded is baffling to me.

Obama fired Flynn for giving classified info to Pakistan, and then declined to prosecute him. Probably didn’t pursue him out of professional courtesy or whatever. Flynn and his son also pushed the bulls**t narrative of ‘Clinton campaign officials are running a child sex ring out of Cosmic Pizza in DC’.
They are looking to replace him with Petraeus, who gave legit top secret info to a woman with whom he was having an affair (who was also his biographer) in an apparent attempt to impress her.
The intel official who leaked this info probably is guilty of committing a felony. But I think a strong case can be made that his actions are justified, since a top official committed actions to undermine two different presidential administrations, apparently lied to the FBI about it, and then the latter admin appears to have actively covered it up.
And a quick note to the Democrats who are currently standing up for the unnamed leaker, who previously cried foul over Edward Snowden and Private Manning: F**K YOU, YOU GODDAMNED HYPOCRITES! Even single one of you corporatist Dems deserve to get Primaried.
To be honest it is refreshing to see Flynn resign so quickly. I am glad he didn’t drag it out. And it is interesting that he was pressured to resign, whereas Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, stayed on for 4 more years after lying directly to Congress regarding spying on American citizens without warrants or prior suspicion.
It is also fascinating to see people get active and speak out against the government in these circumstances now that Trump is Pres, while they sat on their hands while Obama did largely the same thing.
