im like 98% sure this is not a thing. Making an all NBA team just makes it so Utah can offer him a “super max” which is considerably more money than anyone else can offer.
If he wants the super max, he needs one more year of experience for the 230+ dollar deal. He’d make like 100 million more if he waited a year to do a new deal with Utah.
He could have done a 1+1 and then got the 4-6 year 30% max this year but thats risky. And a good chunk of that risk is putting it in the hands of media voters, which can be volatile
IMO. The bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush. Take the guaranteed money. Then go get more. By taking the contract, he hedged against the risk of something happening during the season.
Theringer.com just put out an article that said Hayward would make the most money by signing a three year deal and going for the super max, but if he did that the money would be equal between all teams.
That sucks.
Jazz need to add someone now to keep Hayward. Go get Paul George.
Bit off topic, but if you were clippers owner would you blow up the team and trade Griffin and Jordan to Boston for this and next year’s Nets draft picks?
Griffin, Thomas, Hayward, Jordan, and Bradley could be a pretty decent team in Boston if pieces fit.
Clippers start rebuild with filler young pieces to make the trade work plus two possibly #1 draft picks. One for certain.
Griffin is a Free Agent and so they can’t trade him. I predict he signs with OKC this summer. He’s from Oklahoma and he would fit in perfectly with Westbrook.
