ParticipantHaven’t had one of these in a while, curious what everyone’s listening to.
I’m seeing the Behemoth/Lamb of God show at The Complex on Friday, so I’ve been listening to a ton of Behemoth this week. Never been much of a Lamb of God fan, but really excited to see Behemoth again.

Ever since they got announced for the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise in 2018 (which I now have tickets for), I can’t stop listening to Enslaved.
What’s on your playlist?

KeymasterLots of killer instrumental prog metal for me. Still David Maxim Micic, Plini (both who will be in Salt Lake next month). New one is called Anup Sastry. Very cool industrial prog metal with killer production. And on some heavy prog jazz check out Nova Collective.

ParticipantIs it this?
If so, I’m really digging it. Sounds a lot like Mechina, but without the vocals.

KeymasterYep that’s them. I’m finding my tolerance for vocals of any kind is dwindling.

ParticipantI’m the same way on vocals lately. You guys like Russian Circles, Pelican, If These Trees Could Talk? Solid post rock stuff if you don’t want the vocals.

ParticipantI’m the opposite, and find it difficult to listen to anything without vocals. That said, I do find myself becoming more picky about the vocals I listen to. Most death metal vocals are more the equivalent of another instrument than actual “singing”, but I have less and less tolerance for black metal (usually more high pitched and raspy) and lean strongly towards death metal. My current favorite is Gregor Macintosh from Vallenfyre (also the guitarist for Paradise Lost)

ParticipantSturgill Simpson is awesome.
Might I also suggest Jason Isbell, Lucero and Brandi Carlile.

ParticipantMy next door neighbor’s name is Jason Isbell. I had to look it up and make sure he wasn’t leading a double life as a rock star.
Different guy. 🙂

In addition to being a good song, this is without a doubt the best music video ever made.

ParticipantAnything where Mark Knopfler is playing guitar.

ParticipantSultan’s of swing. Yes please. The solo at the end always gives me goosebumps.

ParticipantKnopfler: Rated really high by most people in the know, yet still massively underrated. Any genre from classical to country to rock, he is in the top 5. He could make a guitar communicate like no one else.
Because I love you, here is Mark at his finest:

ParticipantThat was awesome. Thanks gameforanyfuss.

ParticipantI struggle with Knopfler. I can fully recognize his absolutely immense talent, but his music does absolutely nothing for me. I feel like there’s some piece that everyone else gets when listening to him that is just lost on me entirely.
