Troy was a team captain last year. They had the players vote for team captains prior to naming a starter. They had to know there was a great chance Troy would be voted captain again. If they were just stringing him along to keep him from transferring, I believe they would have held off on selecting captains until after it was announced Huntley was the starter so the players could select their captains with this information in mind.
I mean, honestly, why would you risk having the guy you supposedly knew was going to be the backup be named a captain? And that is exactly what has happened. I think if the coaches were to be honest, they would tell you that having the backup QB be named a captain isn’t the ideal situation. Because of that, I believe the coaches when they say the decision was not easy and it came down to the last minute.
