I know that is what it looks like, but this is commonplace in coaching. Instead of risk losing an assistant, you give them a token title that doesn’t really mean anything but it justifies giving them a raise and the assistant sticks around.
In this case, I’m sure Whit was worried that a flatout demotion from Co-OC back to OL coach would make Harding leave. So to let Harding save face, he ‘promotes’ him to Assistant Head Coach.
I would love to hear what his new duties include as the assistant head coach. Fetching Whit a cup of coffee before a coaches meeting, perhaps?
Harding is the OL coach. Nothing more.
