I agree with you 100%. Just to split hairs for the fun of it, Ive come up with a couple of counterpoints for use cases.
What if you had freshmen that weren’t far enough along yet that you couldn’t play or trust them in conference play anyway. Say you have a specialist or 5 deep guy that’s got potential but isn’t up to game speed yet. Throwing him in a low risk game in garbage time is better than not playing him at all for the season. At least he would get some game time and hopefully make the 3 deep next year.
Give Chayden Johnston a few pat’s, kickoffs and fgs in noncon games to get him used to it for next year.
Let Yassmin get some special teams time if he hasn’t figured out football yet.
Let Tuttle/Lisk duke it out for one game, each leaving them with 3 games as backups to solidify the depth chart. From what I’ve read/heard, Lisk is a darkhouse.
