IF, IF, this kid shows up at all he’s bound to be way way behind every other player at his position. He’s had an entire season off to take care of his academics and get squared away. Nothing.

I’d bet that he’s not a hard worker, and that he lacks dedication. I’m wary of having him on this team. He hasn’t shown anything that suggests any kind of work ethic. Natural talent isn’t enough. Why take this chance?

He’s onlybthis far behind because kalani did him dirty.

Would K-Whitt let a guy transfer directly to BYU?

          Austin Lee springs to mind.

Oh yeah, forgot about him. So, in essence, Whitt does it all the time.

First off, it wasn’t his fault he HAD to go to a Junior college because of Kalani not giving him a release earlier when he should have. Also, grades didn’t post until maybe yesterday or today. Making assumptions about his work ethic based on very little is incredibly unfair.

and if he shows up, he will still have two years to play two. So even if he contributes very little this year he could be a starter for next year when we will desperately need LB depth (we need it this year too).

There are many things we could say about Bronco Mendenhall. But he was a disciplinarian with clear expectations, a structured regimen, etc. I din’t Think BYU got that from Kalani. What I’m saying is, in a more structured environment at Utah he “could” thrive.

This.  I have faith in Kyle’s track record with “troubled transfers”.  By all accounts, Darren Carrington was a model citizen here.  Josh Gordon, for all the talent and hype that came with him, couldn’t keep his behavior straight and Kyle cut him loose.  This really is a no-lose situation for Utah.  Either Francis integrates into the program and Utah gets better or he fails to qualify/washes out anyway.

Having played under KS, FB already has a basic understanding of our D & what’s expected…..He’ll acclimate quickly, depending on what shape he’s in.

      Regarding his work ethic—Huh?

Worth taking a chance because the downside is basically nothing.  Who cares if he doesn’t pan out or we boot him half way through the season.  The need for LB upgrade was painfully obvious last year.  By far, LB’s are the Utes weakest position group since Norris and Paul left. Watching the 14′,15′ games vs 16′,17′ and you can see why it’s worth taking a chance.  Moving Chase Hansen to LB shows that Whit sees it. Makes total sense that he takes a flyer on Bernard.

People need to chill out with Bernard.

He had two counts of public disturbance. The video has Bernard talking to the cops. They had been there earlier, cops came, told them to be quiet. Bernard left his house, his friend says that the other people said they would leave. He comes back and they are still there.

The cop says he will call his coach to settle it OR he can do the ticket. Bernard says to call the coach. The cop then gives him the ticket.

Then the cop starts threatening Bernard with honor code stuff. Bernard says F**K the honor code, which is ALWAYS the right answer.

The cop is threatening to have Bernard kicked off the team. The cop keeps cutting him off and won’t let Bernard speak.

And the cop says that this “stuff” will ruin his college career.

The Bernard says he doesn’t have $1,000 for the ticket.

Then at the end, the manager comes in the room and says that he “has to hear” what is going on between the cops and Bernard. And Bernard gets mad, calls him a racial slur, tells the manager he will hit him, that he hates him, and he won’t let Bernard shut the door. The manager says that it is his property and he can go whereever he wants to go. Bernard says that he will strangle him. And the manager says that he has to record it.

The cops tell the manager to close the door and the manager won’t do it.

Here’s my take on all of it:

I’d bet that if Bernard is at any other school, this is never an issue. You have someone that has called the cops on Bernard for being loud, then trys to go into Bernard’s house and record it, when he isn’t welcome.

Bernard acts wrongly, but EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US WOULD HAVE GOTTEN MAD AS WELL.

Now, we probably wouldn’t threaten to strangle someone, and that was too far.

But it wasn’t kick off the team too far. It wasn’t get suspended too far. It wasn’t anything, but an issue that the coaches take care of with extra work and apologies to the person he was talking to.

As far as the “arrest”, he was taken in for suspiscion of DUI. As far as I know, he was never charged with anything.

All of this is a lot of mormon, getting offended at a lot of nothing. If he was at any other school, there would have never been a “manager” trying to bust him for honor code violations and the suspicion of DUI would have made the news then nothing would have ever come of it, like how when Travis Wilson was found drinking alcohol underage when he was at Utah.

But, when you add in the weird-o, pshyco environment of BYU, you get these things, that are not great, but not nearly the drama that it turns out to be.

He was a college kid, being too loud at 1:30 in the morning. That is it.

Why anyone would associate with the toxic environment that is BYU, blows my mind.

        Ach, omg (smh). 😐
If we’re diving into police blotters, I’m more concerned about his open container issue that happened shortly thereafter. It was as though he was completely ignorant of the s**tstorm he put himself through.

My point is that he seems to be a guy who doesn’t take this seriously enough to work st it and build on his talent. There’s tons of ways to get credits and handle your academic business. Yet here we are, two weeks into camp and we’re still waiting for one grade to post? He had over a year’s time to take care of this…and here we are.

Literally out of his control. The criminal s**t like the DUI you are all glossing over is interesting to me though.

Show me where he was charged with a DUI or an open container.

I don’t like to minimize what Bernard did because he came off as a huge douche in all of it. I can’t help to blame TDS a little because douchey behavior is bred by them.

Utah can and will benefit from his depth and literally is a win even if he continues his stupid ass behavior. He would just get booted off and allowed to transfer unlike what Sitake did for him. I think Bernard knows he isn’t bigger than the team at Utah though.
