And that’s with such a young defense and two DT’s that mailed it in.

Everyone likes to deny the upward trend of Utah football. The only solutions offered are that something drastic like removing who they want choose to blame will make it improve drastically overnight. It is terrible logic because it rarely happens the way they want.

2017 – (3-6)
2016 – (5-4)
2015 – (6-3)
It’s hard to see trending up in that. Losing a huge senior class is just an excuse and shows recruiting deficiency.

I like Scalley, I think he is way better than Sitake ever was, but lowest yards gained by opponents doesn’t come even close to defining the “best” defense. Things that have nothing to do with the defense play into that stat. To define the “best” defense yards against would be very low on my list. Forced TO’s, Sacks, opponent 3rd down %, points allowed, etc. are way more important.

Sacks have no correlation to winning.

noneyadbParticipant
Your singling out a stat and acting like it has no relation to it’s cause. Sacks individually are not going to correlate to winning, but based on the coaches style of defense, sacks have to be combined with QB hits, hurries, and pressures to fully grasp how much impact they have on the teams success.
Last year was a down year for Sack Lake City. The team was barely bowl eligible. The defense still produced the same number of turnovers, but couldn’t get to the QB. Sacks/Pressure under Whitts style of defense do correlate to winning.

More important than tos generates is TO margin. We didn’t hold onto the ball well enough. That’s why

Graduated a huge class the year prior and they were very young last year. Don’t ignore the obvious.

utahsportsguyParticipant
ok, but the results speak for themselves. whitt just isn’t a good p12 coach
-
ironman1315Participant
Yeah. Getting his teams to out perform their recruiting ranks clearly shows he’s a bad coach.
-
utahsportsguyParticipant
now that I think about it, you’re right, he’s never been a GREAT recruiter either. good point.

Maybe a better example that you will be able to understand and compare yourself to Pk. All of the firings and hirings in local sports media. Not necessarily a good thing because it has propped up the lazy ones that continue shoving inferior product down our throats. All the wrong people were let go. How someone like you a short little midget from Asu survives in this market is a damn mystery. Leave your troll on the airwaves where I don’t have to listen to it.
Except for your boy Checketts. That guy was always rich blabbing about sports half drunk all of the time. Being as self righteous as possible.
-
ironman1315Participant
Yeah, improving our recruiting every year shows he’s a terrible recruiter

lol, whatever you say, chief

Yeah, we’ve been pretty middle of the pac 12 road and improving every year. Clearly not good enough.

It’s not just whether someone is good at recruiting. Utah is not the first place many recruits would prefer to go. Cold, remote, super conservative…. That or sunny socal, hot chicks, the beach, great weather 24/7/365…. Plus we don’t pay that much.

When was the last time you heard someone say Kwhitt is a good recruiter? Never.
GA, Scalley and others on the Utah staff have hade those words attributed to them… but never kwhitt.
Kwhitt skill set is x and o. Unfortunetly, recruiting is 50% of the job.
