Guys starting to wear down…tired and banged up.  10 gassers today – 8 last week on Thursday so figure that’s the toughest day before settling in.  Light day tomorrow, scrimmage Sat then into prep.  5 or 6 guys in the pit today including 2 top WR’s. Nothing looks serious.  Huntley/Offense is improved without question.  Huntley’s arm strength and accuracy is night and day better.  Command of the offense is too.  Elusive as ever and will extend plays with his feet with the experience to avoid contact drilled into his head.  Moss is just…I mean my hell he’s ready for a big year.  He’s special and it’s clear he’s worked incredibly hard and is in fantastic shape.  Brumfield is going to be a dude!  Low center of gravity, great pad level, etc.  Shyne looking strong as well.

By the way look at the Feshman class today… Brumfield, Enis, Tuttle, Mata’afa, Mataele, Hubert, Boyd, Green, Perriman, Shelley, Lund (RS), Dixon, Pututau, Ford, Moala, Unutoa, Daniels, Kuithe (2), Yassmin, Fotheringham, Maile and Cravens. David Fotu taking the SAT at the end of the month and should also join soon.  Missions, RS included that might be the best we’ve ever brought in?

I can verify the WR’s are the most improved group on the field overall.  Making catches with our DB’s draped all over them.  DB’s winning their share too.  O-line having success and D-Line responding.  Offense got beat yesterday and responded by giving the D all they wanted today.

This team has a chance to do something this year.  They won’t be intimidated by anyone we play, won’t be outclassed by anyone either.  Tough schedule but with a break here or there the elusive South comes home!

Thank you for the update Onlyu.  For those that are banged up, do you think they’ll be able to return to health and maintain that through the season barring any freakish plays?

Absoultely…being in the Pit isn’t a terrible thing.  Means they’re close to getting back.  Teammates prod them to return for fear of losing time as well. Nothing serious in the Pit.

The pit sounds rather ominous though, doesn’t it? Man, I hear the pit and think “Oh no is he doomed is in the Pit!

I was thinking that as well, like the Pit of Despair, or the pit Zordon mentions in the new Power Rangers Movie.

      Thank you, as always, Onlyu.

I have a (somewhat) related question regarding to being fatigued/banged up. Football is obviously physically and mentally demanding. I get that. What do you have to say about the stories that floated around last year (I specifically remember hearing them on Hackett’s radio show) about Utah’s program being an even more difficult grind that contributes to the November collapses that we have seen in the past? Are the current fatigue levels in camp a microcosm of that?

I’m not questioning Whittingham or the program. I personally like the fact that he expects the best from his players and staff. Just looking for a little insight.

We work hard…camp is a grind sorting everything out especially as we’ve gotten better with depth/talent.  We had to play with a chip on our shoulder especially when we joined the league.  We needed that intangible.  Now our two deep is close to where we need it.  Not quite there yet but a lot closer than ever.  Because of that Coach has adjusted the last year or two.  Definitely more time away from contact but we still have to get the work in.  Big bodies banging on each other trying to earn something is a necessity and sometimes results in injuries.  Just a part of it.  Guys had to play more throughout the season then as well.  Now they have more rest without a huge drop off.  I suspect those issues will gradually disappear soon

Makes complete sense and was in line with what I was thinking. Thanks for the response! I appreciate it.

Can’t wait to be back in my seats this season. Go Utes!

Isn’t depth the problem? Other teams don’t have this too?

Thanks OU for a VERY exciting note.

Did you know you could copy and paste to a text file and use a voice text reader in a woman’s voice? All possible without addons. I use it to listen to articles on the train.

Forgot Lloyd…freakish athlete and big body.  Lights have to turn on though still.  Bernard and Pirtle will take that pressure off him though so he’ll have time to figure things out.
