Utah – I had us going 10-2 with losses to Stanford and Oregon. I feel less confident about our chances against ASU, Colorado, and BYU who all looked signifcantly better than they were a year ago. Right now I say we finish 9-3 with the additional loss coming @ ASU or @ Colorado.

BYU – I had them at 6-6 with wins against Cal, McNeese St., Hawaii, Northern Illinois, UMass, and New Mexico State. I thought they would split the AZ/Cal games and, based on week 1 results, I’ll stick with that but obviously change the loss to Cal. Hawaii has played well enough offensively in their first two games that I think they beat BYU. So, even after an opening week win, I’ve got the Cougars dropping to 5-7.

USU – I had them at 8-4 with losses to Michigan State, Wyoming, Colorado State, and Boise State. The games @ Wyoming and @ Colorado State are looking more like wins for them but they are going to struggle a bit more than expected with BYU and Hawaii. I think they still beat BYU while adding CSU and WYO to their win total, but fall to the Rainbows. That puts the Aggies at an improved 9-3.

You have Utah at 9th in the PAC 12 but going 9-3?

I looked at those rankings like a week 1 power ranking. Based on week 1 results, yes, I have us 9th . . . for now.

We played the weakest opponent and despite winning easily, looked sloppy doing it. Call me crazy, but I think Oregon, Colorado, USC, Stanford, WSU, and ASU should be ranked higher than us . . . right now . . . for beating better teams in similar fashion.

USC was not good for 2.5-3 quarters.  I think we’d murder that team if we played them in the next two weeks.  Unfortunately, Daniels will be a bit more comfortable by the time we play them, but I like our chances,  Put pressure on Daniels and let Blackmon/Johnson remind St. Brown that he is a true freshman, and we’ll be in good shape.

Oregon will continue to be “Try to Outscore U.”  They gave up 400 yards of offense to Bowling Green in Eugene.  I like our defense to give them an uncomfortable evening, and I like our offense to have a better-than-usual night due to Oregon’s D.  Besides, when Oregon players check their closets and under their beds at night, they are looking for Britain Covey…

Tell me what your thoughts of NIU before the season started again?? I don’t care to search your posts on the matter.

We won’t learn as much from beating NIU as we did from WSU. At least WSU is familiar with Utah’s defense. Arguably no other team will be as familiar with Utah’s defense all season and they managed 59 yards on that defense.

I questioned the scheduling of the series. NIU is a program that has been good enough in recent years that they could give us a whole lot more than we bargained for, and could maybe even beat us, especially at their place. It’s a game that prior to the season had me a bit nervous, especially with the potential for us to look passed them to Washington.

You really think we won’t learn more about our team against NIU than we did vs Weber?

p.s. It’s not arguable that no other team will be as familiar with Utah’s defense than Weber was. We play BYU and they have multiple coaches on their staff that know our defense inside out and they play us every year.

NIU will be a bloodbath. Utah will destroy them. Utah has far less to fix offensively before that game.

It hasn’t helped Sitake much so far. ARod is a moron. Calling it like I have seen it for a while.

You make very little sense. Your argument against BYU knowing Utah’s defense better than Weber is that it hasn’t helped them beat us? Well, by that metric they still know our defense better than Weber because unlike Weber, the games with BYU have actually been competitive at the end.

You make less sense. You are weighting certain facts and choosing to believe what you want. Utah started out pretty s**tty. Then it wasn’t even close.  Stop ignoring the actual results of the game. I think Utah plays UNLV, Bowling Green, CSU or hell even Cinncinatti you end up with pretty similar results. Utah started out pretty poorly never panicked adjusted and blew them out. Defensively I can’t think of much going horribly wrong. Maybe the TD was a little easy.

No, what I am doing is not using the results of a game against an FCS team as evidence that we are one of the best teams in the Pac-12. We might end up being one of the best teams in the conference, but this game isn’t proof of it as you and so many others seem to believe.

Playing FCS teams are hard. I just hate the OOC this season. The sloppy mistakes were not caused by WSU really besides the blocked FG. Truthfully I haven’t watched that again.

The first two turnovers Jake Jackson tried to wait for a hit. Easy correctable error. I am not so sure on the read Huntley made because the LBer slid over in front of his man. The Muff punt again bad blocking looked lazy. Adjustments made and then Utah rolls. Ok the fourth and 1 play. A risk you could take considering how the defense has been playing.  The play call was poor but everyone at that game knew it was going to be an inside dive. I like extending the play out with a Huntley read. We might see that later in the year.

The other turnovers I just don’t care about. It is concerning but not a big deal.

The only thing I am upset about was letting Covey, Huntley and others play that last series.
