So our D-Line (and defense overall) got very little pressure on Wilkins last week. This allowed their receivers (especially Harry) to get open and Wilkins picked us apart. On the rare occasions when we did get pressure, Wilkins did not play well. Nothing surprising there.
If we allow Herbert to sit back and be comfortable in the pocket on Saturday, we’re likely looking at a repeat of last week.
We’ve seen this earlier this year too, WSU comes to mind. Why can’t our vaunted D-Line get pressure on a QB? Anae and Tupai have had some sacks/hurries, but certainly not up to the production that was expected. Nobody seems to be able to get off a block, even if Fotu is being double teamed in the middle. How do we dial up the pressure?
The back end of the defense also needs to be brought into the conversation. Luckily, Harry was the best WR that we will see all season. He exposed Johnson, Guidry and Blackmon last week. Oregon’s WRs are good, but not like Harry. Hopefully our DBs can lock them down a little bit more.
I know this rambled a bit. But the heart of the question is how do we get some QBs on the ground or at the very least force them to make some poor decisions?
