First off, Utah ranks in the top 50 nationally both on offense (#49) and defense (#19). So let’s take a look at how the Buffs have done against top 50’s.

      Against top 50 D’s (3 games):

They score 13.3 points per game.

They average 178.6 yards through the air

They average 96.3 yards on the ground

      Against top 50 O’s (4 games):

They allow 30.5 points per game

They allow 286.7 yards through the air

They allow 161.5 yards on the ground

This is a game Utah SHOULD win by a couple scores.

How many of those games facing Top 50 defenses were with Shennault out? He is a fantastic receiver, and might even be the best we face all year.

It looks like he played in 2 and averaged 87 receiving yards per game.

But quite honestly, if we allow 1 player  to beat us who hasn’t played a snap in over a month, we don’t deserve to win.

I imagine this side of the field crap is done with. JJ will be covering Shenault and any other receiver the rest of the season I imagine. Hope we see more Lewis to.

This. Lock him down, forget sides of field.

I immediately think of pulp fiction. “That’s pride, ****ing with you. You know what? **** pride.”

Play best on best and get some stops. Who knows, might light a fire under blackmon too.

Their first 5 games were against weaker competition, but Shenault is a serious athlete, though not that big.  I’d think about mixing Guidry in on covering him, maybe some Tyreke, along with JJ.   Getting pressure on Montez is the key, though.

I think K’Neal Harry, and Dillon Mitchell count as top WRs we’ve faced this year. Michael Pittman is good too, but USC is a mess. He could be better.

Agreed. After we moved JJ to cover Mitchell against Oregon, his production dropped off a cliff and their offense sputtered. I would hope Scalley/Shah do the same thing this Saturday.
