One thing I’ll be looking for in determining the mindset of fans this week is if fans rush the field after a win.

My guess is no (it’d be stupid to do so after beating a barely bowl eligible TDS, I mean come on…they’d be 6-6…stay in the stands!). If I’m right, then fans have started to move on. Good!

Personally, I enjoy the “rivalry”. I have a few friends that are BYU alum and fans and they’re pretty cool people. Plus, 7 in a row and the addition of Kalani as HC has tempered my dislike for them. I genuinely like Kalani and wish him the best, though I still want them to lose as much as possible. 🙂 I like playing the in-state schools, though I do wish we would alternate USU and BYU each year as our B game. It gives me and my neighbors something to talk about.

With that being said, we’re PAC-12 South champs. There’s no reason we shouldn’t win this week. Take care of business, put them away quickly and convincingly, make them wish they were Utes, then move on to UW/Wazzu. This is a tune-up game for the title game next week, an opportunity to fix some mistakes, and work on getting even better.

      Go Utes!!!

I think this year the rivalry will take a bigger hit with #eightsgiving and #pac12ship to follow this waste of time weekend.

It is absolutely a rivalry, just like it was in the 70s and 80s when they were beating us every year.  Now it’s our turn to return the favor, doesn’t make them non rivals just because we have their # now.  They are 40 miles away and deep down everyone of you knows it feels good to beat them.  We now have bigger games than them each year, but that doesn’t take away our rivalry.  The game does need to be played in sept though so we don’t have to focus on them and the conference at the same time.

No, I can honestly say it doesn’t feel any better to beat them than it does to beat any other OOC opponent.

If you want to put this f**king travesty to bed once and for all, kick the crap out of the zoobs, badly, 42-0 badly. Then go and win the PAC12 championship and the Rose Bowl while they play in the Kleenex Nose Blow Bowl. That’ll put an end to this bulls**t once and for all. They will beg us to stop the carnage.

2006 was a great game, but with a heart breaking ending

That catch happened right in front of me; N22, row 2 (IIRC). It was all in slow-motion from the moment Harline ran free from the crowd in the center of the endzone. That moment sucked!

But yeah, the rest of the game was a lot of fun.

I remember. I was there. Our Defense gave that motherf**ker a year and a half to throw the damn ball.

I am not trying to bring up bad memories but it has been a long time before you even lost at home to your rival. Good hell 12 years! TDS just isn’t exciting anymore a win is assumed and you don’t gain anything.

BYU will beat Utah again, at some point. Maybe after Whitt retires?? In the near future I don’t ever see Whitt losing to them. I’ve watched both teams play all season long, Utah is fast, athletic and physical. BYU looks to be running in mud. Never have I noticed a bigger disparity between the teams as I have this year.

My only gripe about the game is what @RiseasUtes said, the game has to be played in September. 2nd or 3nd NC game.

I think it will hold some sense of a minor rivalry for a while. The religious component is a big part of it.  For Mormon Utes I think the interactions with zoobs at church will impact this to some degree.  Additionally many of them have family members that are zoobs. I think that the tight knit community of Mormonism can seem exclusionary to Non-Mormon Utes. The self righteousness of most zoobs negatively impacts the relationship with both groups.  I think this may make it feel a little better to beat BYU than most teams for Utes who continue to live in Utah.  I hope that we can move past it like Texas – Texas A&M at some point but I think the religious/cultural component will make it harder to move on.
