ParticipantBy forcing an undeserving G5 into bowl games, it forces everybody else down a peg.
Still think UCF deserves a spot over WSU?
-
RUUTES
ParticipantNothing in that calculation forces the Holiday Bowl to skip us. The Holiday Bowl is the 3rd choice…if the “prediction” is true then they are just picking a lower win, non-division-winning team over us.
Sucks for WSU. They would stomp UCF. But it use getting jobbed by the Holiday bowl is a separate issue.
That being said, UCF won all its games, just like we did in 2004…an 8 team playoff would have done much to resolve that particular issue. But as it sits things are broken all over (and no apparent desire beyond fans to fix it).

Utah
ParticipantWhat it does is move everyone up a slot and all the handwringing done by fans is a moot point as the Holiday Bowl would be the worst possible bowl for us.

ParticipantI question your premise. But you are, of course, welcome to the opinion. Wonder if we’ll play Bronco in El Paso now…happy happy joy joy…

ParticipantGood. Then we will beat his ass like we always do. He can run, but he can’t hide….

ParticipantI wonder what Whitt thinks about playing him. I really feel like he doesn’t like him. My personal belief is Roscoe is the one that made his players toxic in the rivalry. Tds were bemoaning how cordial Sitake and Whitt are. Good hell Whitt mentored him. They just don’t get societal norms which is why I don’t know why they let Roscoe slip away. He was perfect for them like a savant of zoobisms.

Utah
ParticipantI agree. Soon narrative will never be their fault but it’s crazy how as soon as Roscoe left the rivalry got better.

ParticipantI kind of want a late bowl game to see Huntley come back. I also want to adopt Ohio st or Michigan so I can see Washington get destroyed. Petty I know but I have to see them lose by proxy.
-
Utah
ParticipantI agree. I’d love to see Huntley drop 50+ in Pitt. It would be beautiful. Utah coming full circle. We beat Pitt late with a Blechen INT our first year as P5.
Now? We compete for championships and beat Pitt by 40.
Very poetic.

ParticipantOr we could have just won one more conference game.
-

ParticipantThat is a very fair point. But we also should have a more meaningful ranking agreement for bowl placement in the PAC 12. Still, We should have won at least one of the 4 games we lost. 9-4 is better than I thought we’d do this year….but it ended up being an under performance. Next year we should do better (injuries aside)
-
Utah
ParticipantHuh? You serious Clark?
You didn’t think they’d win 9 games. They lost their starting QB, 4 star recruit, and best offensive player.
They then went and won the south.
And that’s underperforming? Jesus man.

EagleMountainUte
ParticipantShould have beat WSU I think is what he is saying.
-
Utah
ParticipantTrue. We should have. He is right there.

ParticipantI guess if you reflect back on the season and view it as an underperformance you are kind of crazy. After Wazzu loss I didn’t see much chance of winning the south. Then Moss and Huntley going down? To win three and row with a little luck on your side of Oregon injuries. Overall it was a great season but I see why people want more in the what if department. Utah took care of business against a bad Colorado team finally and asu choked. All there is to it.

InactiveWe will never go to the Holiday Bowl. Not even if hell freezes. It’s not going to happen. This will be the third time they pass us over. That’s not a coincidence.
-
RUUTES
ParticipantYes we under performed for what we actually had on the field…not what was predicted at the first of the season.
The injuries only really happened at the ASU game and the lack of Moss in the PAC Championship were factors. But frankly even without Moss and Huntley and Covey we also under-performed spotting other teams all those points every first half. We didn’t look prepared going into Friday’s game.
UW has a great D…but we didn’t do anything on Offense. If we’d phoned in a C- performance on O it might have turned out differently. Ah well. It’s spilt milk at this point.
We should have been 10-3 but we still embrace 1-2 WTF losses every season.
Whatever. The horse is beaten to death.

Trailgoat
ParticipantAgree…scoring one touchdown in 8 quarters against UW is not going to get it done. UW’s great defense is a cop out for Utah’s offense was not good the first and last game against UW.

ParticipantGood for UCF for going undefeated (again, for the third straight year). Great run for them.
That said, I watched a fair amount of their game yesterday vs Memphis. They simply outclassed Memphis is every way. The Memphis defenders were a good step it two slower than the defenders we see in the PAC, B1G, SEC, etc. They were able to break out on plays that would have very likely been TFL vs the Defenses we played (including BYU).
UCF is playing with house money now and when they get pasted in a bowl game vs a team with a pulse, they should have lost. But if they win they will vindicate the CFP for keeping WSU out.
Frankly I would love to see them get matched up vs WSU. That would be a fun game (although the Cougs would probably still find a way to Cougar it).

Participanti think they deserve (UCF) deserve a shot in the playoff, so they wouldn’t be bumping WSU. Also, UCF has a better resume than WSU this year, so yeah, even though it is against our interests, it is pretty obvious that they deserve it. WE wouldn’t be in the P12 were not for a forced spot at the table.
