Wyoming fans must hate the zoobies even more since theywere snubbed from having a bowl invite despite having the same 6-6 record as TDS abd being members of MWC which has an affiliation with Giant Tuber Bowl.
The MW got six teams into bowl games, but independent Brigham Young (6-6) took one of the MW’s bowl ties – the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl – and plays Western Michigan Dec. 21 in Boise, Idaho. That bowl is owned by ESPN, and Burman said via text message Sunday that ESPN wanted to move Boise State to a different bowl and find a bowl for BYU where it felt its fans would travel and buy tickets. Boise State will play in the First Responder Bowl in Dallas on Dec. 26 against Boston College. That bowl is also owned by ESPN.
Wyoming beat some really bad teams at the end of the season to make it to 6-6. 6 wins makes a team Eligible, but they’re not guaranteed a bowl.
Also, the First Responder bowl took the MWC selection away from the Potato Bowl, making Potato an at-large bowl. The MWC was owed a bowl slot, which was given by the First Responder bowl. Once that slot got filled, then Potato was free to choose anyone.
