Mark Harlan lives in my neighboorhood, and i’ll tell him this personally when I see him, but I wil never again purchase away game tickets or bowl tickets through the University.  If I’m makeing the effort and spending the money to go to the game, i am going to chose seats that I’ll be happy with.

My family travels to games every year – this year, the Stanford game.  I bought tickets through my Crimson Clud rep, and was told, as always, the priorty for location would be given to members of the crimson club and would be based upon giving level.  I’ve heard this for years, and always been very disappointed with what I eventually received.  I have, however, always bought tickets through the U so they would get the credit/funds.

For the Stanford game, i specifically asked if they could find some aisle seats, as I had a broken ankle, was walking on crutches, and wearing boot.  He said he would “do the best he could”.

At the game, we tailegated with three other familes who all have season tickets, and I know from the location of thier tickets they give at a level below mine.  They all had fine seats.  I was in the second to the last row of the worst Utah section, in exacty the middle of the row.  most of those around us, bought tickets through the U, but were not CC members.

I will never again pay for any away ticket through the U.  I’m going to know in advance where I’m sitting and not leave that selection up to some individual or committee, who’s criteria is not transparent.

Agreed. I just bought 3 tickets from stubhub that were a better price and I know exactly where I’m sitting.

Crazy that it isn’t first come first serve and allowing you to pick your location.

I wanted to buy through the university and help sell their allotment of tickets but I could end up on the 40 yard line or the end zone. No thank you.

What the U needs to do is reserve some of the best seats in thier allotment for the highest giving levels, and for comps to VIPs, and sell that rest on a first come first serve, choose your seat basis.  It would HAVE to be easier for the U to adminster as well.

I wonder what other schools do…

Agreed – After many games of being frustrated with the seats I was given, I have since purchased road games through Stubhub the last few years to guarantee me a good seat.  It’s frustrating to see people get better seats than me who I know donate less to the Crimson Club.  Since Harlan spoke up about needing help to sell our allotment, I am giving them another chance.  I hope I get taken care of this time with decent seats and they truly go off of donation levels.  I purchased my tickets through the U yesterday – fingers crossed it works out but this is their last shot.  I do believe the ticket office takes care of friends and friends of friends who don’t give much (like every other industry taken care of buddies).   Unfortuantely, I don’t have a close contact in the ticket office besides my ticket rep.  Go Utes – hope to see you all in San Diego.

The way I see it, you’re helping the team whether you buy through the school or not.

If you buy through the school, you help pay for the allotment.

If you don’t buy through the school, then you are buying seats in addition to the school’s allotment.  Doesn’t this result in more gross ticket sales for the bowl, more red in the seats and thus a better reflection on the program?

So buy through the school or don’t.  It doesn’t really matter as long as you don’t buy through Northwestern and/or wear purple.

I’m pretty sure the downvote is from my CC rep….
