      Over the past 40 meetings:

      BYU 20 wins  (.500 winning %)

      Utah 20 wins (.500 winning %)

       

      Over the past 30 meetings:

      BYU 11 wins  (.367 winning %)

      Utah 19 wins (.633 winning %)

       

      Over the past 20 meetings:

      BYU 6 wins (.300 winning %)

      Utah 14 wins (.700 winning %)

       

      Over the past 10 meetings:

      BYU 1 win (.100 winning %)

      Utah 9 wins (.900 winning %)

       

      Many BYU fans making the argument that the programs are on par are delusional. You have to go back 40 years for an even record.  

      Utah will eventually lose to Provo again, but the trend is clear for the foreseeable future.

      Going back 40 sucks in the 20 years stretch in 100 where BYU won more. The recent record is the historical mean, and BYU simply reverted.

        This is correct, I like to think the rivalry can be viewed in four stages:
        1 Pre Lavell (1896-1971), Utah won 81% of the time (Utah record 41-8-4 for a win pct of .811)
        2 LaVell Pre McBride (1972-1989), BYU won 89% of the time (2-16, .111)
        3 Mac Pre Urban (1990-2002), Utah pulled even with BYU and won 6 out of 13 (6-7, .460)
        4 Urban to present (2003-present), Utah passed BYU and returned to winning 80% of the time (12-3, .800)

        In the foreseeable future I would expect Utah to continue to win about 80% of the time, if not more.

          I like to break it down in 2 categories. The who gives a s**t category…and the post Burton block category, which means everything.

      Can you redo the analysis to show moral victories by BYU and the moral victory reasons by year?
