Neither of these players are unknowns and got plenty of playing time last year but both were young and inexperienced to begin the year.

On offense: Jaylen Dixon. The guy has the ability to go find the ball, even though he is smaller in stature, he’s got the speed and ball skills to open up the offense.

On defense: Maxs Tupai. He came on strong at the end of the year. His closing speed, for his size, is very impressive. I think he will thrive with all the attention Anae will be receiving on the other side.

Players you think will have a big year?

      Go Utes!

I agree with you.  Here are a few of mine:

DHC (He won’t get the carries to be all-conference, but I think he could make some game-changing plays.)

      Enis

      Bernard

I think DHC will be the primary backup to Moss. But my change of pace guy i’m excited for is TJ Green. He’s Bubba Poole with Britain Covey shiftiness.

His ability to beat his man off the line is going to be huge for the offense. Teams are going to have to put help over the top and with the attention they are already paying to Moss that means open space for everyone else

Put Dixon and Enis on one side and Thompson and Simpkins on the other, that’s a tough cover. You’d need to have a two high safety look that could make the middle very very soft for Moss and Lord Cole Uncton Fotheringham, the Third of His Name.

I agree. As tough of a cover as weve ever had. I will say I dont expect eye popping numbers from any one guy. I think Thompson and Moss will be the keys that open it up but itll be a different guy every week. Expecting a very widespread relatively even distribution.

This core buying in is key. We have so many talented guys that the frustration over reps/catches could be a disease. And then the ones that do get reps might not get the ball enough. Its tough as a wr going out there running route after route and maybe only getting 2 shots at the ball. I definitely get it. Our offense will lean on the run with Moss so there wont be enough touches to go around. And thats before my prediction that this TE group will be a huge part in the pass game this year. I could see Fotheringham and Kuithe both top 4 in rec yards.

Collectively they are talented enough to make this offense special if they stay all in and stay engaged. But its easy for me as a fan on my couch to say they will need to sacrifice personal stats and glory for the team

I’m excited for Dixon as well. He has amazing potential.  If he can put the droppsies behind he’ll be a big play guy. He was also under thrown consistantly last year, saw him having to fight back to the ball a number of times when he was behind the defense.

Excited to see Huntly in game one. I think we’ll know if he’s going to last the season by the way he plays in game one.  Hopefully he’s improved his self preservation skills.

Agreed. I think Ludwig will get the most out of them.

I think Tupai will lead the team in sacks by a good margin. Not only will teams be focusing on BA but they have to put 2 on Leki and JP too. Tupai has ridiculous burst and its going to be sacks tupai season

Brant Kuithe – Showed flashes last year of becoming a huge passing threat. Also has improved his blocking.

Francis Bernard – He took some time adjusting to Utah’s scheme/schedule, but he’s a really good linebacker. He played really well against some good teams for BYU.

Julian Blackmon – I felt like he underperformed at corner last year. Excited for what he can do at safety.

I will be excited to see how Devin Lloyd turns out at LB. I think we might be pleasantly surprised. I saw him close up after the spring game, and wow, he caught my eye – he definitely looks the part. I thought, “man I would hate to have him chase me down!”. I am sure it will take some time for him to catch on, but Scalley will utilize him well I think.

Also, it is time for a Ute receiver to have a breakout season – Bryan Thompson is due. I will be excited to watch him.

Honorable mentions: Maxs Tupai. Should be a beast with the OLines trying to deal with the three others on the DLine. Solomon Enis: a solid 4-star recruit that should have a breakout season soon.

Tareke Lewis. I have a lot of faith in this kids talent. I believe Blackmon to safety is perfect for him and maximising his elite talents, and with the all american straitjacket on the other side and jav in the slot, Lewis will be the natural spot QBs attack. If he plays like I think he can this defense could easily be top 5 in the country with a shot at no 1

Terrell Burgess isnt talked about enough either. Really hope to see him step up this year and reach his ceiling

Nick Ford-I think he will be our next really good Olineman.

Maxs Tupai-He should have a great year with all the attention that’ll be on Anae and Fotu.

If the DL can get pressure with a 4 man rush consistently and force a RB to help, the defense everywhere will look amazing. The rotation will make everyone shine at moments.

The TEs can be used in the run game or make a D stacked to stop the run look silly. I hope Ludwig uses them to block or chip then release. Play action could be a killer. TE will be a huge weapon.

Blackmon will blossom at Free. The most very good cover guys we have had will show.

The WRs will be used differently and will shine, Thompson was set to shine before he was hurt, now he will.
