Participantjust some historical stats for the upcoming game
average margin of victory – Utah 17.42, tds 16.26
largest margin of victory – Utah 49 in 1922 after 24 year hiatus, tds 50 in 1980
most points in a game – Utah 57 in 1988 when we were massive underdogs and stomped them 57-28
most points in a game – tds 70 in 1989, I guess payback for getting thrashed the year before.
# of times Utah shut out tds – 18
# of times tds shut out Utah – 4, twice in 1897 when it was BYA, so the zoobs don’t count it, a 0-0 tie in 1928, and 1979.
Utah record in SLC, 40-17; Utah record in Provostan, 20-17, Utah record at neutral site 1-0; overall 61-37-1
my 5 sweetest victories (no particular order)
1988 57-28 as major underdogs
2003 3-0 ending their “not held scoreless” streak
2010 17-16, Burton’s block
2016 20-19 Hill’s failed 2 pt attempt
2018 35-27 soul crushing, emotionally devastating (for them) come from behind victory

ParticipantI saw 2 of your 5 favorite games in person 🙂
The Burton Block was an awesome ending, but I didn’t love the way we played that entire game.
3-0 Shutout was a wild time in the snow. Don’t think I sat down the entire game.

Participant2010 and 2018 we stunk the joint up until the end.
didn’t say they were my favorite victories, just said they were sweet, especially since we stunk the joint up.
2018 and 2019 will parallel 2010 and 2011, stinky victories in SLC and blowouts in Provostan

ParticipantThat 1988 victory was shocking! Up to that point I had never seen Utah beat BYU and wasn’t sure I ever would(I was technically alive in 1978, but 3 year olds tend to not recognize the significance of victories in rivalry games.)
Might still be my favorite BYU game memory all these years later.-

ParticipantI was in school in 88. I saw Scott Mitchell walking between classes a lot that year. I congratulated him after the game. It was indeed wonderful, however I didn’t attend the game because I assumed we’d just lose again. :/

ParticipantI was newly wed, Jan of ’88 to a byu grad. Did not start watching, but when she let me know we were winning at half time, I watched the rest and recorded the replay on VHS. Wore the tape out rewatching it.
