This is how every high-level offense used to be. Even for skill positions, it was very rare to see a newly drafted player in the 80’s and 90’s immediately transition to NFL success, rather, it usually took a couple of years for players to learn the system. (Also, it was fairly common for a new coach to not have their offense fully in place until…[Read more]

I hope Whitt leaves at the end of this season to start the rebuilding with Scalley! At this point with the dsyfunction in the program that he’s a liability for the team and if he still decides to coach he will run the program even further into the ground.
I’m sure lots of players ready to jump ship once the season ends. Especially on the…[Read more]

It blew me away. These are high school kids. Maybe a problem with Wilson is he thinking too much?

I believe when Cam went down after his second injury he locked down everything to save his ass from the media and fanbase knowing the truth. He failed the players and failed the fans who pay good money to watch the program on the field only for us to say WTF is going on? When Whitt’s and the media’s pre-season hype wasn’t matching the results on…[Read more]

Am I on drugs, or is it completely ridiculous for an offense to take 2-3 years to learn? That’s just crazy.

Anfernee thanks for the breakdown. The offensive scheme comment stuck out with me. He said it takes 2-3 years to fully understand the offense. He has made comments in the past about Rose not fully grasping the offense. So Wilson must be doing a crash coarse to figure out the offense.
Again that’s old school development where it takes 2-3 years t…[Read more]

If there’s going to be a major overhaul, it makes much more sense to let Scalley take over at the end of the season with Whitt in a consultant role. Utah did this for Scalley after John Pease left for and for Brian Johnson after Norm Chow left.

Losing the Nebraska game really sucked for us, and that ran a century deep. But at this point we’ve had the realignment noose around our neck for 15 years. It is what it is. I guess we’ve always had at least 4 other Big 8 schools with us, so this is still more of our natural home than anywhere else. KSU is our biggest conference rival, and the…[Read more]

Welcome to the site. Definitely post more and invite your friends. We don’t bite.
You can understand our frustration going from having great rivalries with USC and Oregon and more every season, to not having them. Hell, I still couldn’t name all teams in the Big 12 right now if I had to. It’s a tough pill to swallow. Nothing against any teams in…[Read more]

Iowa State fan here. Just wanted to say that despite how some of your online fanbase has reacted, I like having Utah in the Big 12. Rice-Eccles seems like a great atmosphere and (outside of your pure disdain for being associated with us) I get the impression Ute fans have a lot in common with schools like us, KSU, OK State, WVU, and TTU. I was…[Read more]

Lots of interesting titbits from Whitts presser today.
“It’s going to be a heavy shopping season for us in the portal.”
“That’s going on right now. Evaluating what we’re doing, what attractive candidates outside the program, and evaluating everything right now and getting the short list ready. But, yeah, that’ll be job one as soon as the tim…[Read more]

Usually, most years, I feel the same way about BYU. But man, that Holy War game this year really soured me. Also, I probably lurk too often on Cougarboard that I’m praying BYU loses one more and doesn’t make the playoff. I don’t know if I can handle the incessant annoying fans.
That said, I am generally ok with BYU, it was easy when we weren’t…[Read more]

I really want Utah to win Saturday. It has nothing to do with the fact that my team (BYU) would like Iowa State to lose.
If you see my previous post, you will see I cheered for Utah in 2008, even as they were defeating my Cougars in Salt Lake City. I wanted BYU to win, but once I saw it was not possible, I cheered for Utah and felt they deserved…[Read more]

Having lived through the late 70s and the 80s, always happy to see BYU lose.
But given our struggles in a very dismal season, I would rather have beaten BYU in Rice-Eccles then seen them rebound and go to the BIG12 Title game, than lost to BYU and see them fail to make the Big12 Final. (Of course hoping they return from Tempe with another loss).
