Maybe a QB-OC combo.

Case in point BYU 9-1 with very few injuries and 5-7 last year with multiple injuries. Hard to replace a 6th year senior QB. Injuries have derailed two seasons. Most of our backups aren’t quite ready to fill in without some drop off. Imagine if Bernard would have gone out.

All teams have injuries, but we seem to have had more than our share in recent seasons.
Not sure if due to shoes, turf, conditioning, hard hitting practices, or unfortunate luck (lost a RB for the season early last year when he crashed on a scooter for heavens sake).
I will be there early Saturday to make sure I can help give a hearty roar…[Read more]

i would argue yes, other teams have this issue as well. but how many teams have this issue? and to the severe extent in which utah has had it two years running?
utah
-3 of 5 qbs out with season ending injuries. keep in mind that huard never even saw a snap. Rising played about 4 quarters and rose didnt last 1 game. Wilson is also a little…[Read more]

What’s also crazy, if you look at the NFL guys:
Covey on the IR
Moss on the IR
Kincaid was out yesterday.I think we need to look at anyone who has ever worn under armour gear.

I think Utah needs to hit the portal and bring in another quarterback. Not saying Wilson can’t be the “guy” but I want a good competition in spring ball. I personally don’t think Wilson is the answer but a lot of that depends on the new OC.

After BY💩 lost Saturday night, the 2008 Utes are still the most recent undefeated team from our state. Gotta take ANY little victory we can these days.

Not to mention, bringing Bateman back to Utah was completely Whitt. He tried to turn him into a TE. If there is one constant in Utah’s QB recruiting, it’s that they will most likely be better suited for another position or sport.

I’d go with coached all of those and maybe developed Dak Prescott depending on how much credit you want to give Mullen.

My bad, I was thinking the left hander out of a Washington or Oregon HS that wasn’t recruited by anyone else. Guard’s college career sadly is similar to Cooper Bateman’s.

Mike Leach took over a WSU program that had one .500 season the 8 years before he got there. That won 9 games total the previous 4 seasons before 2012 in an era when you could only improve your team through recruiting which typically took 3 seasons before bearing fruit. Mike Leach could have only dreamed of having the recruiting profile of Utah…[Read more]

That’s the thing, I’m not sure that damn near every QB that comes through Utah is as bad as their career stats. Any more than I believe that Utah is completely incapable of recruiting a receiver that can get open and catch the ball when thrown to. You aren’t weak at those positions every year unless your scheme dictates that you will be.
It’s…[Read more]

Ohio State had a 1st round pick at QB, a 1st round pick at receiver (Jaxson Smith-something), a blue chip O Line and a blue chip RB who will be in the league next year if he isn’t already. Let’s not pretend Harrison Jr beat Utah on his own. Or that all that damage through the air wasn’t done against a secondary featuring Micah Bernard.
Having…[Read more]

Bateman was a 4 star out of Cottonwood who went to Alabama. Maybe you are thinking of Cooper Justice who was Ludwig’s first QB recruit in 2019?

Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts, and now Jayden Daniels.

Said it before. Leach was brilliant at making a complex system simple with plug and play WRs and QBs fitting his system. QBs we’re essentially the same skill set. His list of QBs he coached and QBs that went through the WSU system is impressive. Over the past 20 years under KW, Snoop-Erickson, Smith-Mcbride recruit, the QB position talent has b…[Read more]

Which is crazy given one was a 5* and the other a PWO or 1 offer recruit (I forget which Bateman was).
