  • Thanks Miami for the interesting OC pay. If Whitt stays or retires he consults Scalley. We have the money to pay an experienced OC. The offense needs to be designed off the talent you have not the talent you wish you had.

History shows we can recruit RBs and TEs but with the portal there will be disgruntled playmakers that are not getting a…[Read more]

Speaking of Moss – I miss Dennis Erickson simply for his Florida recruiting ties. I know Brian Johnson spent a couple of years at UF, I wouldn’t be opposed to him getting an interview for HC or OC (if he wanted it) once Whitt is gone, assuming he could tap into Florida high schools. His ability to develop QB’s is a huge plus as well.

This thread makes me laugh but also incredibly painful.

What a wreck of a season.

This one hurts me the most for some reason.

  • The portal opens in less than a month and Utah currently hasn’t named an OC. Who that’s planning on entering the portal right now chooses Utah to come and play offense next year? At least prior to 2024 you could sell receivers on playing with Rising in an offense that had been top 15 in 2021/2022. Now? Every kid in the country can quickly pull…[Read more]

  • Mike Leach first 3 years at WSU is 3-9, 6-7, 3-9 and last year was 6-7. Maybe he had great offense every year but still had losing years. I’m sure WSU fans were hoping Leach could coach defense. Leach is all about offense and Whitt is about defense. Scalley will also be defensive mind. At the end of the day, it’s the W that matters.

    Can’t…[Read more]

Don’t put your eggs in the Huard basket. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he ended up throwing the same number of passes in his Utah career as Cooper Bateman. Or me. But at least my total fit with my recruiting ranking.,,

  • UM4G replied to the topic 2025 – OC Candidates in the forum Football 3 weeks, 6 days ago

Good point, I have been pleasantly surprised by other teams success with the portal, so if it were any other team I’d say yes, but under Whitt no I don’t believe we could get those types of RB’s to come in, which I guess brings us back to square one – if Whitt stays who the hell gets the OC role that we can even remotely be excited about.

    Agree…[Read more]

  • I find the recruiting ranking argument as a reason why Utah can’t have a great offense to be silly. Mike Leach had great offenses every year and no one confused WSU’s athletes for blue chippers. He chose one thing, coached his team to do it well, and ran it over and over daring the defense to stop it.

Utah’s current athletes running the…[Read more]

The million dollar question is does Wilson or Rose transfer or do they stay and fight. Wilson has got valuable snaps that freshman rarely get. In hindsight Rose should have been the back up.

Both have room for improvement and if they both stay along with Huard the QB room could be strong. The QB competition will be intense. A new OC and fresh…[Read more]

  • I’m with you on the thinking but Utah doesn’t currently have an Ashton Jeanty on the roster. And I’m not sure next year’s RB’s fit a power run game. I’m not one who believes that you have to have a 230 pound bruiser to run the ball effectively but if you aren’t going to run the defender over, you have to be able to avoid contact and I haven’t…[Read more]

  • Dirk Koetter? I’d say his current offense is Ashton Jeanty first, but not necessarily run first. From his Wikipedia page: At Arizona State, Koetter compiled a 40–34 (.541) record, and four Bowl appearances in six years. Under Koetter, who was also the offensive play caller, the Sun Devils became known for a vertical passing attack.

    2001 ASU – 3…[Read more]

True Freshman QB = steep learning curve

History shows true Freshmen QB almost always do better with at least one year of learning from the sidelines. Combine this with the dysfunction in the program and it adds up to a tough year. We need to give Isaac a break.

  • PNWUte29 replied to the topic QB in the forum Football 3 weeks, 6 days ago

Brandon Rose a step up from Isaac? You don’t say. It’s almost as if Rose has been in the program for a few years vs an 18 year old true freshman. This sub needs to get an absolute grip. I almost feel like some Ute fans, the same ones that hated on Zach and said he was trash are wanting Isaac to produce like Zach’s Covid year. This season has been…[Read more]

Know a guy that knew Troy Taylor when he was here. Taylor told him that as the seasons progressed, Whitt became more and more “involved” in the offense.

  • Great insights on looking at the pay of OC. Would be interesting to see how long those OC have been at the same position with the same school. Outside of money, what else do OC wants? An OC career path is either getting fired or to become a HC. If they are not good, they are out. If they are good, most likely they will be asked to become a HC…[Read more]

I’m hoping there is some serious soul searching going on up on the hill. Status quo is not the answer. By the way, Saturday night’s bluegrass concert in town alleviated a lot of afternoon’s agitation.

  • Last night, I posted a comment which covered how much a large number of college football OCs received in salary at the start of this season.

Needless to say, I was shocked to find out that Andy Ludwig was #2 on the list, receiving $1.85M. The only OC receiving a higher salary was Notre Dame’s Mike Denbrock, who currently makes $2.1M a season.…[Read more]

“You’re traveling through another dimension. A dimension not only of game time decisions but of mind games. A journey into a not so wondrous land whose boundaries are that of zero offensive imagination. That’s a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Whittlight Zone!”

  • SalUTEtheU replied to the topic QB in the forum Football 3 weeks, 6 days ago

I’m not sure anyone is arguing that he doesn’t play his heart out, but that is half the equation. His pocket awareness is not great and the delayed decision making isn’t helping. It seemed like such a step up to Brandon Rose. I would agree that it is a coaching problem if we got similar results from Brandon Rose, but we didn’t. I recognize the sam…[Read more]
