There is probably some truth to this, but I believe this “worldwide” following by members of the church is way overstated. My guess is that the large majority of members of the church might consider themselves BYU “fans”, but probably not loyal BYU sports followers, but are more “supporters” of BYU the institution, thus not really making them BYU…[Read more]

B12 is the best stop gap right now for the super conference beauty contest. From a fan access perspective for those of us living West of the Rockies, it’s a hell of a lot easier and more attractive traveling to the original P12 locations. From a talent show perspective, B12 is the optimal short term place to be as long as Utah contends for B12…[Read more]

He also said that he didn’t really know Coach Whittingham personally but the Utes are a team he had followed, even when the Utes were not in the same conference, because he likes to pay attention to teams that get the most out of their players — the ones that don’t get the high-end recruits like those teams that have 6-7 players drafted in the…[Read more]

Gundy is more social and shares more opinions and emotions. Whitt is all business and keeps everything internal. Both great coaches different styles.

Face it if BYU wasn’t a church owned school and depended on Provo and surrounding area for support they would still be independent or in the mountain west.
Yes they have their hard core base of students and locals but the fact the LDS religion is world wide gives them a much larger fan base.
BYU football has had no respect nationally since t…[Read more]

Fixed the typos. It’s Jaylon, not Jayson

I get tired of the coach speak, but Coach is who he is and Gundy is who he is. They actually seem pretty similar in many ways, but Whit definitely holds more back. I’m not too concerned about it though.

I watched both coaches’ press conferences yesterday. I wish we’d get a little more out of our press conferences. Gundy’s press conference was 36 minutes long and included him fixing a bad compressor on an air conditioner, or something. Whitt’s interview as 16 minutes.
Then again, 20 more minutes of coach speak that isn’t super informative may…[Read more]

Utah had 19,000 fans in Gainsville in 2022. According to the local radio station – that was the largest number of opposing fans for a Florida game except FSU. Cb likes to say that Utah does not travel well. That’s a joke.

I don’t connect with this romanticized nostalgia some of yall have with the Pac-12

No kidding. Any return to a P12 version without Oregon/Washington or USC/UCLA would be a dereliction of duty by the administration and get Harlan & Randall fired on the spot, and deservedly so. Once Oregon and Washington jumped we basically had the P12 Conference mentioned above, and Arizona, ASU and Utah couldn’t get out of it fast enough.

I agree with what you are saying: old PAC-12 was awesome but the Big XII is a good place to be right now and better than the current (and hypothesized above) PAC-12.
However, the CFB numbers you share don’t really show that they view the current Big XII all that better than the PAC-12. Of the six Big-XII playoff appearances, five belong to…[Read more]

Love to see it. Wish we didn’t have so many damn Debbie Downers in the fanbase sometimes though. There were 5 drops or so in that 1st quarter along with some really shitty playcalling from Ludwig, and we had people blaming him. He’s clearly the best option we have at backup QB. He’s an 18 year old true freshman that led us to a win and…[Read more]
