Smith’s biggest issue is going to continue to be recruiting. You can be a good X’s and O’s guy, but if you can’t recruit, you’re never going to be a consistently decent to good program. More NIL support would definitely help, but we also have to accept that Smith is just not a good salesman.

TomahawkCruise replied to the topic Is Lawson Lovering a "True" Senior with no 5th year possible? in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 months, 3 weeks ago
Yeah I think Lovering is out of eligibility after this year. He was a year late for the covid year.

Oh Lovering is done after this year? Makes sense, I just thought he got the covid year. But I guess he was a year late for that.
Too bad, id love to have Law back next year.
So Law and Lohner are definitely gone. Sounds like the Madsens are, too.

True. Let’s see how they do. We really need them to be good.

Yeah, KU is in a slump right now but this is still a good team. Don’t forget they have five Quad 1 wins, including a win over Duke.
I think by seasons end, Kansas will still be regarded as a solid team.

Maybe not set in stone yet, but I think with the record the NCAA has in courts of law people just assume that a precedent is set and away we go. Sounds like Smith thinks Erickson could get another year. Here’s a link that sorta tells what’s going on.

Unless they’ve retroactively changed the rules, appearing in 1 game burns a year of eligibility (unless it is an exhibition), so Madson is a probable no. Erickson would gain a year because of a recent ruling exempting JC years. As in another thread, I don’t see how Lovering would be able to come back.

OK, I’m not sure who has anymore eligibility gor next year due to the extra Covid year and the transfer rule being overturned, so I thought this would be a good topic of discussion.
Regular eligibility:
-Ausar
-Dawes
-Keller
-Little
-Sharavjamts
-Traore
-WahlinExtraordinary eligibility:
-Erickson
-LoveringPossible eligibility?:

I’ve been wondering for months how the hell we got Lohner to come back. He seemed to be really turned off by Utah when he flipped to BYU and I thought that would be forever. I was stunned when I saw he was transferring here to play football and hoops.
He’s no scoring juggernaut, but he plays HARD and he’s tough as a mule. I love Caleb as a Ute…[Read more]

He got Battin to stick around but that didn’t help. Allen, Larsson and Plummer were the ones to keep.

Sadly, you kind of have to do that if you sense a great coach and want to keep him happy. Dr Hill, however, was badly mistaken on what he thought was an elite coach.

Yeah, the fact he retired after sucking Utah’s paychecks dry (which is something the vast majority of fired coaches do NOT do) is probably telling. I was very surprised when I saw he’d retired. I fully expected him to move onto another college program after having a somewhat successful run at Utah. He was apparently happy to be retired and let…[Read more]

No doubt. I think if we could have made some more free throws that would’ve been good for 2 or 3 more wins.

No, I don’t think Harlan is doing jack shit to help MBB. He’s part of the problem, in my opinion.

We’d definitely be in if we won out.
Our paths to the ncaa tournament:
– Win the XII tourney
– Win out regular season
– Go 4-1 to finish regular season and 1 game in KC
– Go 3-2 (including Arizona) to finish regular season and 1 game in KCI think any of those gets us in.

Well, I think Smith is a good coach on the court, but he’s still responsible for putting the team together. The talent we have or don’t have is on him.

Calling Craig Smith a good, possibly great coach is the funniest thing I have heard in months. Yes, we just won two games in a row. One against possibly the worst Kansas team we have seen in a decade and the other over a mediocre KSU squad. Prior to that we lost three road games in a row against two mediocre teams and one crappy team. Smith’s…[Read more]
