Holladay Ute replied to the topic FB Season Ticket time… in the forum Football 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I don’t blame anybody for giving up their tickets. Last year was brutal. And it’s obviously really expensive.
Somebody else is in line to take your place though. They still have a lot of goodwill built up within the fan base. And we’ll probably have a pretty good team in 2025. And it’s not like we were getting blown out in 2024. As painful…[Read more]

Spot on. We really needed a couple more of those road games against beatable opponents. And that’s really the difference between us and TDS.
Even in the unlikely scenario we finish 3-2 AND make it to the quarterfinals of the B12 tournament, I think we’d be on the bubble but I don’t think we’d make it in. We’d be 19-14 at that point w/ a weak…[Read more]

Remind me, didn’t the 12 send 8 teams last year? It’s very possible Utah is swirling around the cutoff currently. Win at UCF before a loss to UofA, and the rest of the games are winnable. We do need to play decent in the conference tournament to make something happen.

Winning out puts us in, that would be 20-11 needing wins over @UCF @Arizona & @byu.. for a team that is 1-8 on the road that would take a miracle. We really needed to split the wvu/ cinci trip and not lose to @OSU.
3-2 or 4-1 with a deep conference tourney run puts Utah on the bubble. Big 12 will get 7-8 teams I think

This is the answer… The players should have stayed after coach K was let go.

What will it take to the make the tournament. If we win out with a deep tourney run are we in?

Is it great? No. But they play hard and seem well coached (aside from free throws – though they were much better tonight). I expected them to be a bottom dweller in conference. To be at nearly .500 and middle of the pack in conference is encouraging.

Where are they playing this season? I know that season tickets cost about the same as a meal at McDonald’s.

UTEopia replied to the topic RPO Blocking Schemes in the forum Football 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I imagine we will see some illegal downfield calls, but that is on the QB, not the OL. They are blocking run all the way and if the QB throws a pass it needs to be out of his hand before the OL hit 3 yards downfield.

Isn’t Pepperdine sort of small school with a big program (sort of like Gonzaga in hoops)?

I think Loverings mechanics are actually pretty good and he shoots it fairly straight, as evidenced by his bank shots (accidental?) falling sometimes. He has very strong arms and hands, which is a good thing in general for rebounding, catching and passing, etc. Just not good touch in harnessing that strength for shooting.
IMHO, if he stood…[Read more]

Just my opinion…if you look at Coach K’s trajectory at Utah, the team was getting progressively worse every season after the departure of Wright and Poetl. His tenure here was a sinking ship and, just looking at his body language during games, you definitely got the impression that A. He’d much rather be somewhere else doing something else and…[Read more]

No. The amount of guys transferring out of the program every year was a HUGE problem. He was losing 25-50% of his rosters just to transfers, and that was before the transfer portal became a thing.

This is a good point and I agree w/ it. Although, none of those players transferred until after Coach K was fired. It’s too bad Coach Smith couldn’t convince any of them to stick around. Maybe we could’ve had a year or two of the best of both worlds (good recruiting + decent coaching).

Well, I’ve been a season ticket holder for 15 years (including the last year or two of Boylen) so I think I lived the whole experience and then some. I grew up going to the Majerus games w/ my dad. The best coach we’ve had since Majerus was Coach K.
I agree, we were underperforming w/ good talent, it felt like Coach K was possibly checked out,…[Read more]

Coach K got burned out. The program was stagnant and his “old school” offense and style didn’t resonate with the up coming players. Recruiting is everything. Coach K had NBA experience and connections that helped him recruit. Smith doesn’t offer anything to attract top talent.

I remember having conversations with you about this issue on “Block U.”. Coach K was definitely fired a year or two too late because of that anchor contract extension Chris Hill gave him. I remember that everyone’s minds were boggled seeing the product on the floor and knowing that Coach K was one of the highest paid college basketball coaches in…[Read more]

No no no. Absolutely not. The man was not a good basketball coach. The fact that we may have hired the wrong guy in Smith does not make firing Krstkowi-hack wrong. Do you remember our offenses under Krystowiak? Dribble the air out of the ball, pass around the wing, chuck up a shot at the last second and hope it goes in. It was like watching paint…[Read more]
