The Miami Ute replied to the topic Another 20+ point loss in the forum Basketball (Men) 7 months ago
There is no silver lining. What we’ve seen in the first three games of conference play is going to the same script that will be repeated game after game until the season’s over. The Utes are fatally flawed as a team and, once each game settle downs and the opponent adjusts, Utah really has no answer.

Oh, it’s not only that…Utah State has gone through multiple coaches, because they keep getting hired away, and starts with an all new roster, it seems like, every season. I have to give them full props for doing so much more with so much less than Utah.

You know…the MBB has all of the hallmarks of a mediocre team.
Game starts and they’re decent for a while. Then the other team adjusts to what Utah is doing and Utah either lacks the personnel or coaching know-how to be able to stay in the game. And thus, by the end of the game, what you have is another blowout loss.
I don’t think that…[Read more]

By rule, the Winter portion of the portal is closed to new entries. The exceptions to the rule are:
1) Kids who have reached graduate status can enter at any time
2) Kids whose season has not ended yet have 5 days after their team has played its last game
3) When a Head Coach takes a new job or is fired, kids have 15 days to enter their name…[Read more] -

Unless I am wrong, but it appears the portal never closed because players are still transferring even though techically the portal closed end of last month.

I seem to remember that he got a season-ending injury in pre-season practice, which would be why he never played for the U in 2024. I imagine he didn’t like his chances of making it to the top of the heap with all the new faces in the room.

My angle was more had we moved on from Cam earlier with Ludwig at the OC helm, 2024 might have looked something like 2023. This would have kept Ludwig in place and wouldn’t have brought on this needed change this early. Call it 2024’s silver lining.

I think that you might be on to something there. At this point, I don’t know if he’s even already graduated but it might make sense to start out as a GA under his uncle’s tutelage.

Interesting interview with the young man.
A couple interesting things on the portal and NIL etc.
He seems like a sharp kid. I’m excited to see what he can do. He mentions calling Beck and Mendenhall to decide on coming to the U, and got thumbs up from both of them.
Wanted to come here to play with our OLine and our Defense.
I’ve never heard of…[Read more] -

Yeah, I’m not trying to suggest Whitt should have seen the future and canned Ludwig after 3 stellar years in a row. Had Rising and Kuithe left back then, Ludwig probably would have done much better these last two years, but they didn’t, Ludwig was terrible, and he needed to go.
The coaches did the best they could with the info they had, which was…[Read more]

I know this may not be popular. I love Kuithe as much as the next guy but I’m not sure how this is a big loss from the last few years to this next one. We really didn’t get that much production and of the two I always felt Kincaid was the more productive of the two. Do we have a Kincaid this coming year? I’d say not likely, no. But do we have…[Read more]

2024 was a disaster. Picked to finish first and Whitt wanted to retire a winner. It seemed to motivate Sitake more after a losing season. We will soon find out.

Ludwig wasn’t getting changed out after those RB runs, rarely do you see change during periods of success.
Wasn’t going to happen after 2023 either when many thought the coaches did a really good job of triage despite being the actual cause of the mortal wounds.
I’m afraid had we not heavily relied on Cam’s return to health and gotten adequat…[Read more]

the problems of 2023 & 2024 were because the coaching staff wasn’t motivated? or just normally motivated but not highly motivated?

Right, but who the F are our starters anyway?? Seems like every night it’s different. By this time of the season, you should have whittled your rotation down to 8 or 9 of the best players. Your starters should be more or less set give or take an injury. Instead, every game is a new lineup. I know starting is for HS and all that, but it’s just…[Read more]
