Three words: time of possession. With Rising out the best strategy, as deemed by the coaching staff, is to win by suffocating the opponent by simply not letting them have the ball. It works really well if, and only if, we put the ball in the endzone at a high rate. We did not do that against Arizona if we would have then we would have won. We had…[Read more]

  • We have yet to pass the smell test.

  • Dang. TT beat Arizona, at Arizona… I mean, I don’t think we have any idea how good or bad we are right now.

  • You aren’t wrong.

There is nothing Utah has shown to this point, that tells me they can roll the rest of their way.

The hope is that Reid, O’Toole, and of course Cam are all back, and things look as was expected. So far though, I have zero confidence in a single game the rest of the way.

  • Those IW designed runs only happen with Charlie Vincent in the backfield.

Like when Mitchell is in the backfield he is getting the ball, between the tackles.

Like when Lohner is on the field (only happens in the red zone) he is getting the ball.

If we can see the patterns and predict the play calls, so can the opposing teams.

    At least Ludwig…[Read more]

  • I hope there are a few designed QB runs where Wilson gets 0 yards but gets absolutely crushed.

  • I respect pretending that your take was a bad joke slightly more than I respect doubling down on it, which is standard practice. Your virtue shines.

It’s true, it’s an impressive stat. I think it’s due both to our team’s style of play and our defense’s ability. Even though they’re not the best we’ve had I feel that they’re doing well overall.

  • Dude, i couldn’t have said it any better myself. Well spoken! I expressed my two cents replying in other posts that I don’t think our team is as good as advertised or thus far has not passed the eyeball test. For that my responses got down votes and that’s fine. I am a realist and at this point in the season we aren’t playing like or looking…[Read more]

It’s weird we seem to have some problems when you look at things like numbers or even just our team playing. But what I’m being told very frequently on this board is that no one’s responsible. Oh well, guess we’re stuck.

  • Here is a selection of game-by-game points given up by our opponents this season:

    – Baylor vs P4 opponents: 23, 38, 34, 43
    – USU vs FBS opponents: 48, 38, 45, 62
    – OKState vs P4 opponents: 31, 22, 42, 38
    – Arizona vs FBS opponents: 39, 31, 10, 28

Theme here? The lowest number in each of the lines is what Utah put up against them. Our offense…[Read more]

  • However, none of the comparitive scoring looks good for Utah. Baylor is 2-4 and not beaten anyone of note. Utah State is terrible and gave us a game. Ok State is really bad and they have lost three in a row. Arizona lost at home to a lowly Texas Tech. (How did we lose that game???)

I know that I will get some thumbs-downs for this post, and…[Read more]

ISU Might sustain success but them, BYU, and Colorado are all in serious danger because they have little depth generally or in key position groups that will make late season game difficult. Teams with little depth have already played their best football.

I didn’t watch the whole game but Cal was a lot of fun to watch early. The take this morning seems to be that it was basically a fix for Miami.

  • I specifically call out that I enjoyed watching the teams with lower talent succeed and you name three losing teams with MORE talent than their opponents this week???

Somebody with a single wrinkle in their brain might’ve come to the conclusion that I might’ve been referring to the OTHER three teams in your noted matchups. lol

    If you wipe the…[Read more]

Sorry to be the Debbie downer, but unless the team is pissed off for dropping one at home to Arizona and looking to fight back and get their MOJOs back, I doubt they’ll be ready to play and win against ASU. Rising no doubt is the team general, the team leader and if he’s not playing its 505/50 win or lose. I’ve seen this so many times before, Utah…[Read more]

Unless we see significant improvement from the team without Rising, Utah will lose against ASU. Our wins are not looking so good right now and Arizona loss to Texas Tech tonight. That tells me half way in the season, Utah isn’t looking like the Big-12 favorite! Kyle Whitt’s team can lose to any of the undefeated Big12 teams right now and…[Read more]

  • True, but the problem is that those “top teams” are just Ohio State and Texas. UGA and Bama have their own big weaknesses. Oregon does too. So far this year only Ohio State and Texas have looked truly elite.

  • Yeah, they most definitely are riding their luck this season. They’re extremely fortunate that they don’t play Clemson or Carolina during the regular season because both those teams historically have their number. Their toughest games remaining are away to Louisville and away to Syracuse. I don’t see them winning all of their games but stranger…[Read more]

ASU’s only loss this season is to Tech away and Tech is holding its own at Zona at the moment. Could be a tough game indeed.
