Miami remember when we used to say the big boys were afraid to play us. We can beat anybody. We could be competitive in a P5 conference. Don’t miss the New Mexico Wyoming UNLV games. Air Force was always a test. BYU TCU were always a big rival for conference title. You could drive to most away games.

Great post, Jim, very balanced and well reasoned – how the heck am I suppose to overreact to that? 🙂

Back when we hoped to win the battle of the brothers and maybe win a few other games against the likes of Wyoming, Colorado State, and New Mexico, and at least blowing out UTEP was a foregone conclusion. Dreamed of one day beating that team down in Provo and heaven forbid attending a bowl game or maybe being in the ‘others receiving votes’…[Read more]

11 of the 21 listed are not Utah Top 10 guys, or are not from Utah, or didn’t sign with Utah out of HS.

I think you have it backwards. When I heard him, Mitchell said the thumb and index fingers are the two most important digits for throwing a football.

Agree. Utah is 4-1 with it’s best player out. There are positives to build on.

I get what you’re saying. What the other post was griping about was not landing top 10 Utah guys. Half the guys on your list are not top 10 or didn’t sign with Utah, originally, or are not from Utah.
Mokofisi, not top 10,
Kump, not top 10,
Bently, not top 30
Vakalahi not top 10.
Damuni signed with Stanford
Tao Johnson, Idaho
Togiai, Idaho
Karene…[Read more] -

Sometimes I pine for the old MWC days. A lot of the innocence and enjoyment is lost when you’re in the college big leagues.

Copying this list from another thread. Not sure if they’re all “lighting things up,” but I would say all of them are making very positive contributions. And the list does not include a bunch of future starters (guys like Ike Garcia, Cash Dillon, John Henry Dailey, etc).
– Smith Snowden
– Nate Ritchie
– Tao Johnson (Utah-north lol)
– Karene Reid

Vele’s from Southern Cal, but he did serve an LDS mission which I could see confusing people and making them think he’s from Utah.

To clarify, I believe Utah recruited more of the top ten in-state players than that, but that is how many signed with Utah. Your point remains the same (in terms of success trends for signing in-state recruits). But I want to clarify the distinction because the original poster on the other thread made it sound like Utah was not even recruiting the…[Read more]

I think this bye week was perfect for the team. But extremely tough for fans. No one goes undefeated. Conference games are tough. We still have all our goals in front of us and very much achievable. Go Utes!

Let’s use this bye week to decompress and reflect on the positives. How many hours our coaches put in. How many hours the players put in. Our high graduation rate. How many players pass on what they have learned to coaching youth football and being well respected community members.
How proud we are as fans to watch the transformation of a p…[Read more]

The way I look at it, how many local Utah recruits have been significant impact players historically? You really have to dig deep. I think they have historically been offensive and defensive linemen for the most part and this Dunn kid coming in certainly continues that tradition but when was the last true stud WR, RB, or DB come from in state?…[Read more]

Most of the in state talent isn’t all that great. The Fano brothers are great. Who else do we have on the roster that is lighting things up? The great in state talent almost always leave Utah. Always have, always will. The great ones we get, I’m grateful for. But this isn’t a trend. In fact, you take away the last three years, and Utah has…[Read more]

@TheMiamiUte the states of Arizona and Colorado have a larger population than Utah, but they don’t have more high school recruits than the state of Utah. Typically, Utah has more D1 recruits than both Arizona and Colorado. There are some years that’s not the case but on average Utah High school produces more D1 players.
The Big 12 is a mid…[Read more]
