There are a hell of a lot of assumptions going on with Ute fans interpreting what the players expressions mean. They’re frustrated just as we are. But DON’T read into it anything further unless you actually know. It does them, coach and the whole team a disservice.

Probably beat Arizona, TCU, Houston, and lose to ASU still. Honestly don’t know if we beat OK St with Barnes. Feels like that could’ve looked like the Baylor game did last year where he was pulled for NJ. Again, the offense was not good last year, the team was just better at not losing games they shouldn’t,

I agree. Barnes was able to beat get something out of the offense. JJ was chronically injured last year so it’s not like our RB room was any better and we had far less talent at the other skill positions. He played much tougher games to this point in the season. This season is purely abysmal from a SOS standpoint which makes the losses even more absurd.

You know, I’ve been thinking about that quite a bit. If Barnes had stayed and performed as last year, we’re easily, at worst, 6-2, and possibly undefeated. Given the circumstances, I’m sure that Barnes is also probably kicking himself for transferring. I get that he wanted to play but he’s a backup as USU as well.

I would bet we would be in a better position than we are today. I saw someone say although he never set the world on fire with the Pig Farmer was almost always beat the teams we were supposed to beat (ASU, Zona, Houston and maybe TCU).
The Pig Farmer gave us a guy who played in the system for years and who could come in and game manage the…[Read more]

Great points shame. I’ve wondered that all year. Huard has the skills and experience. Tired of the not knowing the playbook excuse. Let him play and see what he can do. He can’t be worse that’s for sure.

Ghost of the HEB replied to the topic 2024 makes me miss 2023 in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
What’s interesting is that the 2023 offense actually finished statistically ranked just as bad the 2024 offense currently is. But it sure felt like that team had much more of a “know how to win” factor. Outside of the bowl game, they beat the teams they were supposed to beat, which is a trait that this 2024 team seemingly lost the ability to do. I…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Does the team want Isaac at QB? in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Where is Cam in this Qb debacle? If anyone has the pulse of the team it’s him. Why wouldn’t he step up and be a leader even if he’s out. Let the coaches know about the team concerns. These aren’t high schools kids anymore. Team leaders have access to coaches. Maybe Whitt and Ludwig wanted IW to be the the new Cam but he’s not.

I agree with physical skills it’s the development and decision making I was referring to. They all played bad regardless of skills.

Interesting thoughts. With the exception of Huntley and Rising Whitt has always struggled handling the QBs. Huard certainly couldn’t be any worse than the other two. Now we go in to the BYU game with no QB. The players always know who’s better or who they want to follow.

It’s not MB fault that we don’t have other backs on the roster that can compliment him / carry some of the load. You can’t blame an airplane for not being a truck it just doesn’t work that way. He has done exceptionally well this year given that defenses are stacked against him, and he’s being asked to run a lot of times in a style that isn’t…[Read more]

As frustrating as 2023 was with Bryson Barnes, I’d happily go back to 2023 and the Bryson Barnes led offense. This sounds nice for the wins and losses but if Utah still had Bryson Barnes in 2024 would that just be putting off the underlying offensive and QB problems until 2025?

I don’t see the physical tools in Wilson that I saw in a Jayden Daniels or Cam Ward. Both of them had a lot more raw physical gifts in terms of arm strength/talent and mobility. In Wilson I see a kid who has grown up being spoon fed the QB position and I’m not convinced his ceiling is all that high.

Building a game plan around Huard might be a way to change things up but does it feel desperate at this point?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Kicking and special teams woes in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
This team put too much pressure on itself to win. All year it seems like they play to not lose and make things harder on the whole team. It’s a domino effect that hits all phases. The kicking game is a reflection on the whole team.

A few years ago a freshman QB by the name of Jayden Daniels came to RES. He played for ASU. He was horrible and I remember thinking this guy is highly touted. By who ? He could run but couldn’t throw. Two years ago Dante Moore a 5* from Detroit came to RES with UClA and same results. Cam Ward was horrible at WSU his first year (transferred from s…[Read more]
